Chimney sweeping - do I need it if I have a living flame gas fire?

I wouldn't have thought so, they don't generate any soot, do they? The fireplace needs to be empty for sweeping anyway, where would you put the fire, can they be disconnected easily?

If the fire is already fitted it should have a regular service and that check should be sufficient to see there is no problem

if you are planning to fit one the chimney should be swept and checked by a professional sweep beforehand
