Would eating Poo make you ill?

My sons (age 3 and 19 months) woke up this morning and the eldest one did a big poo in his potty, but because the stairgate on his bed room was closed he couldnt come and tell me...

So instead of shouting over the gate, him and his brother decided to 'paint' the walls with it...

it was in there hair... on there hands... and round ds2s mouth..

OMG it was discusting!!!! I nearly threw up!!

They have been bathed, the walls scrubbed, toys, bed clothes etc all being washed..

but what if he ate some?? will he be ill?

uurrgghhhh

Sorry, but I had to have a little snigger at this ...!!

No, it's not poisonous. Pretty unpleasant but it won't hurt him.

HuggyBear · 31/10/2005 12:47

Poor little thing keeps trying to give me a kiss and i keep getting visions on a poo stained mouth bless him

I hope not as newly trained ds2 did a poo on the stairs last week and before I knew about it, ds3 (14 months) had eaten a bit - it was round his mouth a bit and I could see it on his tongue!! Bleurgh!!

He seems unharmed!!

sandyballs · 31/10/2005 12:48

Ugghhh. It won't hurt him though. My dd ate her poo when she was about 18 months and she was fine. I didn't have my glasses on and started yelling at DH for giving her maltesers, I then found my glasses and discovered it wasn't maltesers .

WigWamBam · 31/10/2005 12:49

at Maltesers

HuggyBear · 31/10/2005 12:50

Pmsl @ malteasers!!

I wonder if it tastes nice then seeing as so many kids have eaten it

This is something to look forward too! Well, animals do it - must just taste like well shit! (blurgh)

Also, PMSL at the maltesers quip.

Oh, the fun of parenthood!

Racers · 31/10/2005 13:05

Also PMSL at this and the thought we've got this to look forward to! I'm just wondering if I'd have been cruel enough to get my camera out or too shocked to think of it. I can't help thinking there should be embarassing photos in all families, because there were plenty of me for people to laugh at - it's character building In fact, they brought them all out at my wedding last year, much to the amusement of my friends... so maybe poo covered baby photos would be crossing the line!

BTW, I'm sure also that it will be ok, just such an unpleasant experience for you but you'll be able to rib them about it when they're teenagers (blimey, I sound dead harsh, don't it? It comes from being from a big family I think!)

tassis · 31/10/2005 13:06

This would gross me out too.

I read somewhere that it's quite common for kids to do this...

teeavee · 31/10/2005 13:09

my ds did it not long ago - I was sitting just nearby and thought he had a piece oif wholemeal bread in his hand - how wrong was I???

hotmama1 · 31/10/2005 13:10

teevee - wholemeal bread This thread is bizarre but is getting sooo funny - I must get back to work!

footprint · 31/10/2005 13:13

I remember eating my poo when little to see what it tasted like Answer - not very nice!

No harm came to me.

I have a theory we must be immune to the bacteria in our own poo.

teeavee · 31/10/2005 15:56

OMG, you remember the taste? now I really want to chuck

borisCarlkoff · 31/10/2005 16:30

snigger at the thought of lips that touch poo shall not touch mine

visions of you holding child, arms at maximum extension, face turned to one side. "saying yes dear mummy loves you..."

ho hum no doubt it'll be my turn next.

NotQuiteCockney · 31/10/2005 16:35

Um, I think this can do some harm - you can get an E. Coli infection, even from your own poo. I wouldn't be surprised if kids were a bit ill from this.

I don't think it can kill or anything, though.

doormat · 31/10/2005 16:35

lol huggy

HuggyBear · 31/10/2005 18:45

A friedn of mine used to give you little girl Nutella on toast for b'fast. One morning while we were staying there, little ones had b/fast, friend cleaned her DD's face and hands, went ot lift here out of high chair and noticed Nutella on DD's finger so she just quikly sucked it clean.

You can imagine the rest.

DD has just filled nappy and had a scratch.

Not Nutella on finger.

NEVER saw my friend move so fast. Into kitchen washing mouth out with Fairy liquid!

Even got our DH's out of bed to have a laugh after their mega boys night out!

pfer · 31/10/2005 19:23

Huggybear, bleaughhhhhhhhhhh......

Don't know if it'd make the kids ill but it would me ....

CreepyJess · 31/10/2005 19:26

No it won't hurt them. Have posted about this on SN before. When DS first did it I had an appointment with the Consultant Paediatrican the same day (by chance!) and she got a right tale of woe to the effect of 'Oh poor me! my son eats poo!!' but she assured me that it would do him no harm although was not top on the list of nutritional toddler snacks!

Panic ye not!

HowlingHuggy · 31/10/2005 19:26
