There is a Loreal at my sons school and a Foxy - both girls. Awful....

Miaou · 29/10/2005 23:43

When I was in the States I worked with identical twins called Sherri and Shelley - um.

(Sherri shared an apartment with Brandi too -pmsl!)

paolosgirl · 29/10/2005 23:44

Twin boys - Mark Anthony and Anthony Mark

Gomez · 29/10/2005 23:48

I like Casper not as much as Cosmo thou' and am tempted to produce number 3 just to see all the stiffled snorts .

DH would of course divorce me.

HRHQoQ · 29/10/2005 23:50

I went to middle school with twin girls called Claire and Candy (Candida)

CountessDracula · 29/10/2005 23:52

it's Caspar not Casper

I have a very good friend called Caspar and dd has an eponymous bear

Gomez · 29/10/2005 23:55

Sorry .

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 29/10/2005 23:56

Caspar - bit of a cat's name though?

ThomBat · 30/10/2005 00:01

Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I have a boy this Xmas I want to call him Kasper.

callaird · 30/10/2005 00:05

I looked after a little boy called Laird (Scottish for Lord) and when the parents first told me, I thought I couldn't look after a child named that, I looked after him for 2 and a half years, and now I couldn't imagine him being called anything else! He's adorable. People always think it's Les or Lad though!

Also knew a boy called Kim when I was 6 or 7.

And would like to call my little boy Bailey (parernal grandmothers surname, I think it's lovely!)

Nbg · 30/10/2005 00:07

I have heard a Mercedes and Loveday.

callaird · 30/10/2005 00:08

paternal even!!! It's late! My excuse and I'm sticking to it.

suzywong · 30/10/2005 00:16

these are great

I remember a Copeland, with Copey for short

not really a crime I suppose but I just can't top any of these

spookylucy · 30/10/2005 00:19

I heard a mum with a strong brummy accent calling for her dds to "come ere mercedes and carrera [sp]" I wondered if she had a son called mazda. [miaow emotion]

twinsetandpearls · 30/10/2005 01:03

I know someone who has called their daughter Candida, why name your daughter after an itchy vagina?? Whenever I see her I think of the Canestan advert.

We have some very elderly triplets in our extended family called Pixie, Dixie and Trixie.

suedonim · 30/10/2005 01:05

There's a girl near here called Karcher - like the power washers!! Her mum is a firefighter and I always wonder if that's what influenced her choice of name.

Mercedes was a girl's name before it was a car. The originator of Mercs looking for a name for his business and decided to use the name of his daughter, Mercedes.

We have a Sonny in our family - my bro, the baby's grandpa, said that 'I suppose we'll get used to it.' I just can't conceive of a possibly bald, fat, 50yo man being called Sonny, in the year 2054!!!! Mind you, my grandad was caled Methusalah.

nooka · 30/10/2005 01:08

The only name that I have really thought wtf is a little girl at my dd's gym class called America. It just sounds very ugly to me, and I can't think it has any shortenings. I find it very difficult to chat to her mum as a result, as I feel I just can't react at all.

I like proper names (ie not made up), spelt properly. Unusual names are fine (I have one!), but I do think that you need to consider where your child is growing up, and the sort of person they might become. So I wouldn't call a daughter something very flowery and feminine for example, because what if they weren't like that? I hope that we have chosen names for dd and ds that are flexible enough to grow with them. I also really dislike calling children by shortenings alone, or silly things, because what are nicknames for?

On the other hand you can never tell how people may react - dh for example has the most popular boys name (also classical in origin) for the year he was born (there were about 10 of them in our year at uni), but his grandfather said "that's a dog's name" when he was born!

My dd is called Saskia. Of course I think her name is beautiful but others may think not. Have had plenty of odd looks! When preg. I also toyed with Anouk and Romy. Fab!

triceratops · 30/10/2005 03:10

I have a nephew called Ulysses and my cousins child is called Jenson which is more or less ok until you realise that his surname is Hutton.

Jenson Hutton - Not something I would name my own child.

My grandma was always known as Moon and I have an aunty Lorelei so odd names run in the family.

Pip · 30/10/2005 06:58

Aah, DS2 is called Rio!
But, it's okay as it's a Spanish name, my parents are both Spanish & we live in Spain so not many Yorkshire accents to deal with here!!

Tegan - you spooked me there for a while - I knew a girl who had 2 girls, one called Tegan, who knew an Archie, Fin, Kai & Blade ... thought it was you until you said your DD is 7!
