Ok so this whole halloween custom has only really started to get big in this country over the last few years, when I grew up it just wasnt a big deal.

So how does it work?

If you say trick do they trick you or do you have to perform a trick for them and do they still get a treat?

we were in a restaurant in Notting Hill last night and 3 kids came round ffs it was only the 26th. We gave them nowt on the basis that they would only spend it on drugs (which they refuted indignantly)

egg your windows? really! I thought they might tell a rude joke or something, man I am naive

We get kids in bin bags calling they don't want monkey nuts just cash. We used to spend days on our costumes and had to sing songs and tell jokes, only went to the houses in our street.
If kids I know call and have made an effort I will give them some sweets or something. I must make sure I have something in . My kids had a disco at school and we don't kow that many people here so they won't go out. Usually get dressed up and visit granny but she is away this week.

satsumers makes sur the money grabbers dont come round in ones and twos when theres a group of them - they usually dont bother if i am giving satsumers away.

younger kids get a bit pissed off that its not sugery goodness as do some of the mums.

had an interesting conversation with my dd who is a very tall 12 yo - had to tell her she must make an effort with her costume becuase 4 girls knocking on doors can be manacing and i said " wheras i would tell them to piss off, other people just feel afraid - so think about your costume"

I never thought of kids asking for money, what are monkey nuts? We wont be going out ourselves, ds is too young anyway but we have recently moved into a neighbourhood with lots of young families so I am expecting a few halloweeners out and about.

I normally get a cheapo bag of lollies or something to fend any of them off. This year we've got some really manky tasting string cheese that I'm quite looking forward to giving away as a 'treat' it's foul.
