alcohol in christmas cake/medication

thinking about christmas cake making and wondered about this.....can people who are taking loads of different medications eat christmas cake that has been soaked in alcohol? was looking at the delia recipe which does alcohol. anyone have any ideas?

I don't think it would be a problem as the alcohol must evaporate off during the baking. It may be different if you lace the cake after with alcohol but even then, I'd have thought you'd have to eat an awful lot to imbibe a measurable quantity. Someone else may have a different opinion, though!

I'm wary of adding alcohol to the cake after baking (as some people do), as a member of my family is a recovering alcoholic and prefers to eat any food without alcohol, so even avoids red wine type cook-in sauces. The cake can tend to be a bit dry, so have sometimes added apple juice after cooking, or suppose could soak the dried fruit in apple juice/orange juice before cooking?

I suppose in answer to your question - I would avoid the alcohol if there is any doubt.

4darlings, it depends what they're on. If they're on something to stop them having alcohol at all (I thing AntAbuse) is the one, then no. Can you check in advance?
