Hi Aimsmum

How are you and DD today? Not as shaky hopefully. DD WILL forget - kids are really resiliant. Any more thoughts about bonfire night and taking her to a display?

x

Aimsmum, we had a bad fire a couple of years ago (had to move out for 3 months)and dh had to carry both children out through thick black smoke. He couldn't even see his hand in front of his face and it all happened in minutes, very scary! You might be glad to know that although dh had many sleepless nights because he couldn't forget the sight of dd's terror-stricken little face, dd herself recovered much more quickly. There weren't any problems when we moved back in, even though she'd seen the state of the place with everything black and half the floor missing. kids are amazing really!

Also don't know if it helps but even after we'd washed everything from ceiling to floors and re-painted large areas the place still reeked. Then we had the carpets professionally cleaned and it was like magic, all lovely and fresh again! Just thought it might be worth bearing in mind if you can't get rid of the smell.

So glad you and your dd are ok.

Aimsmum - crikey moses that's dreadful. I hope you and your dd are doing ok. I know of two people who have had kitchen fires from washing machines (of all things). One had great neighbours, who rallied around closing all of the house windows to stop the draft feeding the fire and spreading. They saved her house.

There is a website which recycles, for free, unwanted household goods. You might be able to get some good replacement stuff on there, if your stuff is smoke damaged. Can't remember the url - but if you want it, let me know and i'll dig it out!

Hope your dd get's over the worry. Bless her. Hope you do too. Big hug.
