I had a fire in my cooker a few months back. I opened the oven to find the thing on fire. With me it was a tray of oil on the bottom from some burgers that I hadn't noticed and taken out. I know how scary it can be.
Glad you are ok though, hope you get some answers.

KristinaM · 25/10/2005 21:45

got them man from my housing to take the cooker away but i think they will still have it in storage.

You need to check they havent taken it to teh dump, otherwise you are stuffed!Unless you can get it back of course.

Ite really good that the HA have had an electrician check it out as that will be useful if you get to court

I will speak to my mum about the investigators tomorrow, are the part of he fire brigade if so she should know about them.

yes they are are at HQ at hamilton, get her to speak to the duty fire investigator.

Remember to take photos of everything, all the damage in the house, including teh smoke damage, teh kitchen ceiling, walls floor etc. experts can tell a lot about the fire from the patterns

HTH

I know that at the moment you are just focussed on the fact that you are all Ok. i woudl be too. But I know you are not well off and if you can get back some of the money you have lost it woudl be good. And if there is a fault in the cooker it woudl stop it happening to someone esle

KristinaM · 25/10/2005 21:48

sparkly - thats why Dh was asking aims mum about oil in the oven . if it ever hapens again you shoudl shut teh oven door and turn it off. and call teh fire brigade if its bad.

KristinaM · 25/10/2005 21:48

befroe I met Dh I woudl never have thought of any of thsi either. I think we mums just think about getting our kids out. its not til later you think about other stuff. Its just I knwo you are not exactly loaded and finding the extra £££ is not easy.

Dh says women always go back into a fire to get their kids out while men go in to tackle it! exactly true in your case. what great neighbours you have!

hope your mums gets soem good advice tomorrow. SFB shoudl be able to help their own!

hunkerpumpkin · 25/10/2005 22:08

Oh Aimsmum, thank goodness you and dd are OK and the house isn't too badly damaged. Your neighbour sounds brilliant.

Have just gone downstairs and checked our oven, in the light of Kristina's posts and discovered that dh cleaned it days ago and I hadn't even noticed. Can you tell who does all the cooking round here?!

That must have been a real scare for you. Thank god nobody was hurt though, apart from a kitchen that is

edam · 25/10/2005 22:34

Hi Cod, enjoyed the resurrected D Essex thread - missed it first time. Swoon....

ScummyMummy · 25/10/2005 22:34

So glad you are both ok. What a terrible shock.

spookylucy · 25/10/2005 22:37

glad you are both ok, it must have been terrible for you.

spooklymieow · 25/10/2005 22:39

you can call me sparkly if you like, I'll only have this name till monday anyway!!
I freaked when I saw my oven was on fire. I ran screaming to DH. He managed to get the flaming tray out and nothing was damaged, which I was very happy about because I have a large stainless steel range cooker and it took me years to get one.
But it made me think about removing all trays before I put the thing on now.
