neighbours leaving - should I get them a present?

just wondered what anyone thought. Our neighbours are moving abroad. we get on pretty well, have dinner together maybe a couple of times a year and a drink together probably about the same. We're no busom buddies but get along well enough. They're coming round for dinner the night before they go (all their things will be packed up)and I'm kind of not sure whether a pressie of some sort would be suitable. haven't a clue what - they have everything. It'll all be in crates anyway, flowers would be useless. I think it's probably best just to leave it. Or maybe a nice bottle of wine for them to open when they arrive?

A bottle of good champagne is a nice thought, but the dinner the night before they go is a nice enough touch on its own, TBH.

I'm with bubble.
Don't overdo it.

Could send them flowers (with a vase included!) to their new address to arrive when they move in.

You could set up an account with Opodo and really freak them out by telling them that, instead of a going away present, you'll go and stay with them... for at least a month...every year.

bubble99 · 24/10/2005 00:09

That came out wrong. I would be freaked out at the prospect of me staying with me for at least a month. IYSWIM.

I think a really nice dinner with a rather lovely champagne would be send off enough...

however, should you wish to buy for me.....................

good. just nice dinner then. sorted. dh has already made one of his finest casseroles so I'm kind of of the hook. Only problem now is how to cope with a hangover on tuesday. (neighbours very fond of their wine...)

hatstand - coping with hangovers - lots of water before you go to bed - part of the problem is that alcohol dehydrates you and brains need lots of water.. hence headache.

Whilst drinking said water - pop some ibuprofen and in the morning when you wake up - have some berocca ( not sure if you can get it in the UK - vit B tablets put in water - makes yummy fizzy drink) again another big drink of water on waking.. keep up the water the next day. Pop some more ibuprofen as well.

oh in terms of presents - what about a little something delivered to their new address after they have moved in.

When dh and I moved to Scotland, our then neighbours bought us a simple wooden photo frame, took some pictures of us all having a drink together, and put it in the frame. I thought that was a lovely idea.
