Think I might have had bit of an idea. To start off with, how would I go about registering the name of my site? Will I have to pay?

Some hosts will also register your name but make sure they register it in your name sop that you can walk off with it

The cost varies basically balancing what the co gets from you in return for your registration ie no free lunch

if you want tocheck the avaialbility of a name go to nominet for the uk names

Agree, whatever you do make sure it is registered in your name (learnt this the hard way!)

I registered mine here 123-reg , You get a basic holding page for nothing and it will redirect to other sites say if you use a free hosting site that tags on their own name. You get e.mails with your website name and can forward this free to your own e.mail, no transfer fee.

Mort have been absolutely fantastic for us - we've used them (for various stuff) for about 2yrs now (not sure if they do domain registration - but their hosting is fantastic. They've been known to answer our 'help' emails at gone midnight before now - after spending to evening working on problems for us.

Thanks all. Unfortunately DP immediately picked a big hole in my dot.com millionaire idea so I won't be needing it.

Oh come on tell all, perhaps there is a way round it

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 25/10/2005 00:03

Don't think so. It is really quite a fatal flaw and will make me look tres stupid!

Go on share, I am trying to figure out how to integrate a shopping basket facility at present without having to pay £5.99 a month. I suppose £5.99 a months not that bad but I know sales will be v.low t start with. Putting it in to perspective its not that big a step compared to the other things I have chickened out of.
