Anyone a genealogy expert?

Hi! I'm trying to trace my family tree which goes back to the UK, but it's very hard from here in Australia!
Does anyone know how I can access Royal Navy records pre-WWI? My great grandfather served in it and I'm stuck - can't get anywhere on the opr site. Any ideas appreciated!

There is a download on this website of a PDF document which it says helps in researching family history (not sure if it means anybody's or just theirs though!)

It has CD Roms of "Navy Lists" for 1890 and 1914.
