ebay ripoff!

I need a laundry basket so logged onto ebay to see what was around, a woman sells ikea baskets for £6.50 plus about a fiver for postage, but i decided to log onto ikea where i discovered the basket she is selling on ebay for £6.50 sells in ikea for under £3!

I emailed the seller asking if it was the same basket (gave ikea details) and saying since she is selling it at twice the ikea price would she like to rethink her price and discount it (tried to think of nice way to let her know she'd been bloody rumbled without getting myself reported!)

i mean, i know thats how a shop works everywhere - but twice the price on ebay?!

doesn't matter cos i didnt buy it (obviously!) but the lesson is to check out what the item costs elsewhere - you might be surprised!!

I have seen second hand cds of Harry Potter (read by stephen fry) on sale on ebay for more than the cost of them new on Amazon....pays to research

Why is it illegal? If someone wants to buy it at that price, why stop them?

Nothing illegal about it at all. Happens all the time. One of the reasons why I never buy anything on Ebay. Have yet to find anything on there that doesn't go for cheaper in a shop.

i know they aren't allowed to overcharge for postage and stuff like that...

To play devil's avocado ... I don't drive. Getting to Ikea is a real hassle for me. Plus it's a really stressful unpleasant place. It would be easier, and cheaper (given cost of car, and all the other crap I'd buy) to just buy the laundry basket on ebay.

(Ikea don't do online or mail order. Annoyingly.)

check out wallace and gromit mugs they are free with teabags. I am currently flogging them at 4.99 and last night they I sold them 2 mins after putting them on...if people are happy to pay that then why not?

Sure, they're not allowed to take the mickey with postage, but this is different.

(I do buy on ebay - I bought my laptop, and my phone there. Both a bit used, both much cheaper than elsewhere.)

LOL, just a few days ago i saw those ikea plastic kids cups (the ones that i think EVERYONE has) that cost about a pound on ebay for £2 + £3 postage!

saw something else as well that was about twice the price of ikea.... was talking to a freind on msn and even commented on it!

do people really buy it? i mean... ikea stuff?

even if you don't live near ikea you could still get something cheaper from another shop....

I sold two graphing calculators for more than I'd paid for them in the US where I bought them. Ditto a laptop.

If people want to pay daft amounts of money, let 'em.

I am amazed at how much Ikea stuff goes for on ebay - but I guess she can sell at that price because people will pay for it (what an easy way to make money!).

When I saw how much those Erika Barbie singing dolls (apparently you can't get these in the shops now but they were about last year before Xmas) were going for on ebay, I tried to persuade dd to part with hers (thinking I could basically buy all her Xmas presents with the proceeds) but she was having none of it!

I find some stuff in IKEA a ripoff even at the shop's prices, never mind what they go for on Ebay.

I saw some fur gilets from Primark that retail at £6 being sold for £15.99 + £5 for p & p. Now that's taking the p!

I saw some Pride and Prejudice (TV series) DVDs going for about £20 including postage on Ebay. If you look on play.com they are there for £14.99 including postage. Hello people??

With Xmas around the corner, think I might have a look through the hall cupboard to see what I can flog.

it does really depend what you are looking for though. i know that primark ladies clothes sell really well on ebay, because not every one has a primark near them and when they see sienna, kate etc whereing the latest whatever, and they can get a near identical primark one from ebay for a still reasonable price, they are prepapred to pay for it.

having said that i wouldn't pay over the odds for a primark item, as i don't think the quality is worth it.

i think some people get caught up int eh bug of bidding on ebay though, i have sold a lot of items and most of them i get a reasonable price for but a few items sell for way more than i paid for them. i sold some burberry kids clothes (presents that had been worn, but wanted to sell as felt they were a bit chavvy!) and a jumper, complete with carrot soup stain (small but still noticable) clearly marked as stained sold for £65 cost about £50 new and you could still buy them in the shop, a next t-shirt which i paid about £5 sold for over £10!!!!!

imo thats what ebay is all about buying and selling and taking the risk that what you buy is a) genuine and b) a fair price, i personally always reseaarch how much something is new and then set a limit on what i am prepared to pay second hand.
