Bali. Paradise on earth.

I lived in Thurso, too, for 4yrs and ds2 was born there! We used to go to Dunnet Head and all the other gorgeous beaches along that coast, Farr, Tongue etc - beautiful.

The Maldives - no news, no shoes - bliss

binkie · 18/10/2005 16:07

Little fjords in Orkney, late afternoon in late spring - greeny-grey land melting into sea, pink-silver light, and silence except for skylarks. Particularly nice from a canoe.

colditz · 18/10/2005 16:15

The Llynn Peninsula in North Wales

Frizbe · 18/10/2005 16:16

Delanog North Wales, but you have to find the exact spot!

I was before your time, then, Juice, as we lived there from '79-83. It was an amazing place to live, so much freedom for the children and so safe. When we moved away we discovered our car door locks has rusted up because we'd never locked them in Thurso!

Thailand - Koh Tao

and

the Grand Canyon.

Pete McCarthy did an excellent Travelog report on it once and said how it was even better than everyone raved about it being.

It is the only time I've wanted to cry at the beauty of nature. We went twice in February some years ago. The firt time it was so snowy we got turned away at the 'gates'. The second weekend there was just the dusting of snow and the beautiful colours.

Bali for me, too. Possibly followed by Bermuda.

hermykne · 18/10/2005 16:43

what a great thread for inspiring holidays

CountessCadburyOfBournville · 18/10/2005 16:45

There is a car park on the road out of Inverness towards Gairloch. From it, you can look through the valleys to Loch Marie. It is truly the most beautiful and peaceful sight I have ever seen. I long to go back there.

The giants causeway and The Blue Mountains in Australia

dyzzidi · 18/10/2005 16:49

I loved the changing colours at the Grand Canyon and I also loved the sunsets in Masai Mara when we did a safari there.

moondog · 18/10/2005 17:45

colditz,you are right.
Frizbe...where? Don't know this place and hell,I know North Wales very well indeed.

Cape Point - and the area around it - absolutely stunning - and Table Mountain is pretty impressive too - and the hillls around Nyanga (Zimbabwe) are truly breathtaking.

piffle · 18/10/2005 17:50

the southern alps in NZ are amazing and also Lake Taupo and the whole geyser region around, stunnign, I miss it a lot

Parts of Wales are stunning in a similar untouched way I found as is Ireland esp the wild West Coast
The Lake District is where my dads ashes are scattered and I adore much of the non touristy areas too...

chicagomum · 18/10/2005 17:54

Would have to go with QoQ on that one and say Cape Point is pretty spectacular, although the Maldives rate pretty highly to imo.

Taormina in Sicily
Venice

moondog · 18/10/2005 18:12

Apparently you can see the Northern Lights in Thurso?
Have you two?
Know a girl who lived there. Shame she isn't as nice as Thurso sounds...

KateF · 18/10/2005 18:16

A place called God's Window in South Africa and the Matopos in Zimbabwe-weird but beautiful.

KBear · 18/10/2005 18:23

West of Scotland for me to, particularly Glencoe and surrounds. Perfect peace and four seasons in one day sometimes!
