I have just been reading another thread and it got me wondering how people have come up with their nicknames. Mine is a mixture of two reasons. I have had my hair every colour of the rainbow according to my Dad (at the minute it is shocking pink, it was suppoese to be purple but it went wrong!).
When the girl next door was young she couldn't pronounce my name properly and she called me Boman. Boman got shortened to Bo.

Oh that was purple minge, not pink minge!

jedy · 25/09/2003 12:22

sorry

WSM · 25/09/2003 13:12

ROFL, you'll have to ask doormat !

poppyknot · 25/09/2003 14:00

Mine's from the word my niece used for her top-knot. (very cute curly pale red). THe word now means the bobbles, elastics and scrunchies that go in my DD's hair - we do socks and shoes and poppyknots in the morning beofre going to Playgroup. We now can't get out of the habit (and anyway what are those things called????? is there a better word?). DD might be a little confused when she goes to Claire's Accessories with her pocket money though.......(not for a few years, she's only 2 at the moment)

sunchowder · 25/09/2003 15:15

I fear that doormat is not speaking with me because of something discusting that I posted about swallowing. My name originates from a list of about 50 names that I came up with because of my obsessive personality. I thought that Happy Soup was a good representation of me, it was either Sunchowder or QuasiMoto at the time and I just couldn't take being that ugly everyday as that was just a temporary swelling I had. Lazyeye I loved your response, cracked me right up! Good for you.

Janstar · 25/09/2003 15:29

My dds call them 'bunchers', poppyknot.

waterbaby · 25/09/2003 15:40

waterbirth = waterbaby
so technically guess I'm waterbabysmum!

waterbaby · 25/09/2003 15:43

Love the poppyknot though - will be using that one! Lookout, your niece will have earnt her place in the OED next time its revised to include the latest gobbledy gook, drugs slang, and internet techy words...

sandyballs · 25/09/2003 16:08

Sandy Balls! - well, where shall I start!

Actually it is a lovely little holiday park in the New Forest in Hampshire - they have gorgeous little log cabins scattered around. We discovered it last year and have been back about four times. I'd highly recommend it.

Such a shame there isn't a more exciting story behind my nickname! It conjures up all sorts of images!

janh · 25/09/2003 19:20

sandy balls, I wondered if it was that - my cousin used to go there and I had a few postcards - but what on earth were they thinking of when they called it that???

WideWebWitch · 25/09/2003 19:24

Oh, I went past Sandyballs recently - went to a sweet pub nearby in the New Forest with a friend and children. Quite, re the name, what were they thinking of?

Lilysmum · 25/09/2003 20:56

wicked water witch and sandyballs,

What a small world. I live in the new forest about 10 miles from sandyballs!!

Lilysmum · 25/09/2003 20:58

My name is real inventive, I'm...errr...Lily's mum!

doormat · 25/09/2003 21:00

lubu · 25/09/2003 21:51

lubu is what dh calls me when he is being nice!!

lubu · 25/09/2003 22:13

I won't say what he calls me when he is not being nice.

(It has taken me 20 minutes to post this message due to some g** from the Netherlands repeatedly trying to hack into my computer - if you are out there - don't bother it is really boring!!!)

doormat · 25/09/2003 22:16

lubu your dh probably says the same things as my dh when he is not nice,LOL

rainbow · 04/10/2003 15:33

Come on twiglett, wsm, janh where do yours come from?

OP posts:
janh · 04/10/2003 16:29

rainbow, mine is very very boring - my name is Jan and my surname begins with H! I love all the funny/clever/quirky names on here like yours - wish I had one!

forestfly · 04/10/2003 17:51

Doormat its called directions hair die is that what you mean?

Lilypad · 05/10/2003 17:37

Where did you get your name from forestfly. I've been watching this thread and its really frustrating I find a name and there is no explaination.

New rules for new posters. You have to explain your nickname before you can post .

rainbow · 05/10/2003 17:41

OK suggestions for JanH new nickname. It's got to be clever/funny/quirky.

What are you like Jan?

Bubble
Jigglypuff
Pikatu

OP posts:
janh · 05/10/2003 17:53

Something large and a bit scary is more like me I'm afraid! (Never thought of using Pokemon names - what a good idea!)

What's the big monster called from Monsters Inc?

ghengis · 05/10/2003 17:59

I can be a bit fierce sometimes -gggggrrrrrrrrr!

jodee · 05/10/2003 18:31

Please everyone, don't keep changing names! It's not so bad when people say what their 'old' name was, but when they don't I have to go on a sleuth mission through old postings trying to work out who they used to be; drives me nuts if I can't figure it out!
JanH, we love you just as you are, boring name and all! (And mine is equally boring, my name is Jo and surname begins with D!) Wish I'd changed long ago but been on here too long, would feel all 'new'... how about a rule that you have one months grace to change your name if you don't like it - otherwise tough, you're stuck with it!
