Had a letter from the HV to say dd's assesment is in a week.

What do they do exactly?

Nbg - I also got a letter from my HV but to say they have stopped doing the 2 year assessment, so I can't help I'm afraid.

aha! just had one (not me, ds!)

they don't ask much:

  1. drawing - asked him to draw circles and straight lines. basically, as long a he can scribble on a sheet he's ok.

  2. imaginative play. cars in a garage, pouring a cup of pretend tea (thats pushing it a bit). basically catching the gist of what certain toys are for.

  3. pointing to eyes, nose, mouth, ears when prompted.

  4. General speech. DS says bugger all and he's 2.3 but the HV reckoned he was OK and that it would come. he's babbling alot and she can hear some words even though we can't.

That's about it really.

Oh right. Why's that?

I had heard some areas wait till 2.5 or even till 3.

It was just that it has been mentioned about dd having speech therapy depending on how she was at her 2 yr assessment but I don't know what it is they expect.

That sounds really positive DC. Thanks

HV wants to see him at age 2.5 to see how his speech is coming along. at that point she might refer him but she reckons SALT's are a bit over used and not to worry too much.

All he says is 'NO', 'OH NOOOOO', 'MAMA', 'DADA', 'UH OOH' (like a tellytubby) and 'UP'.

I think she should be ok then. She says a few words but when the HV's come out with comments like they should be saying so many words by such an age, you start to panic.
