Ok, not a deadly serious one but I am in really interested in people's brushes with fate, meetings with mediums, palm readings, tarot card predictions etc...
I am really considering getting an reading done myself soon. I have had a quick one done before and it has turned out pretty correct. I talked to my friend about it and she says she prefers not to know, anyone think like that or thinks it's a load of bull? Anyone been conned completely or amazed at their's??

Incidently, anyone have the Living channel and watched 'crossing over with John Edwards'? I was fascinated when I watched it at a friend's house recently - but then it's only (american) TV and could be utter rubbish...

Bugsy, I guess I just want to know because I'm a generally nosy person! But seriously I am a total fatalist so really want to know my future. I agree with everyone who's said there are a lot of charlatans out there, I think the best place to find someone is by word of mouth...

I saw the article in Marie-Claire too Tigermoth, it was v interesting - just shows you that it CAN be true though as the reporter was totally bowled over by one of them wasn't she.

Joe, I think everyone has these abilities too, just some people are more tuned into them . My friend who I mentioned should get some training, then she can give me my reading for free!

These 'co-incidences' are a part of everyday life aren't they. A couple of days ago I got a Gabrielle song in my head that I hadn't heard for ages and never really liked until it was going round in my head and I thought 'yeah that's really nice actually'. (Little test for the psychic's out there - which one? answers on a postcard please!) I happened to ask my friend if she had the album so I could borrow it. The very next day the song comes on the radio first thing. THEN later that night I had popped round to a different friend's house and she was playing the album, weird?!

Have been to my spiritual health session afternoon and it was incredible how many people had turned up, the majority women. Some had been waiting for over 2 hours to see the 2 mediums that were there. I have to tell you though, it had got to the stage with the mediums that people were waiting for the person to finish their reading and sliding in before anyone could stop them, not taking their appointment - and hey guess who were pushing in? - yep the OAPs! We got there at 2 and the list was closed for private sessions so we saw the palmist, which was really interesting! He didn't actually tell me anything I didn't already know about myself, but it was really wierd talking to a stranger who seemed to have known me for years! I have been asking myself all kinds of inwards looking questions since I spoke to him this afternoon. One of the mediums gave a little talk to a group of us and then asked anyone if they had any questions for her - she kept looking at a man in the front row and eventually said 'you have something to ask me, dont you?' No says he. yes, you do says she, you're wrong says he in a v loud voice. So she says to him, if you don't ask me now then forever hold your peace. She said she knew this because she was aware that he was in a difficult situation when he needed advice. He got quite loud telling her she was mistaken and left the room! Still on the 50:50 split - heart versus mind. Told beloved that the medium told me I should have sex with beloved at least 3 times a day, but that I knew that he felt the spiritualist stuff is all rubbish!! LOL!!!

This is interesting. I haven't had any phychic experiences as such but certainly some coincidences.

The one I most remember was when I was a young teenager waiting for a bus, I got chatting to a girl, can't remember what was said but that's not important. The very next day I was going for a day trip to France with my family when who should I bump into on the boat, but this girl! It definately was not said either of us were going.

Also at about the same age I had a couple of strange coincidences. After ice skating I was queing up to get my shoes back when I suddenly thought I bet they give me the wrong shoes back, and they did! Ok I'm sure that sort of thing happens regularly. I've also had weird deja vu (sp?) moments, where I'm in the car and I suddendly feel I've been there before when I don't recognise the place, then I come over all sick feeling!

Something I've always done is count things or guess count. I pick up a bunch of something and guess how many, my success rate isn't that good though! It's all coming out now, I also used to guess the time on our digital video recorder clock. In my mind I would say 22.22 and it would be, quite often. Actually I still do guess the time.

Has anyone got any ghosty stories, I love them, no experiences myself but always love to hear others. I just can't believe that all these people make this stuff up.

Grandmamma · 17/09/2001 05:22

I am not supersticious, do not believe in the supernatural, and am practicing christian.

Last Thursday I was at a funeral for a work collegue of my son's.

After the funeral I was asked back to the widow's house for refreshment.

Their were several other people at the gathering, including my son and my husband.

I had never met any of the other guests before.

One young woman in her mid twenties came over to speak to me, she was a nice young woman, quiet and refined.

She was most adament that she had met me before.

To the best of my knowledge I and my family had never seen or met her before.

She did not know my name, but after chatting with her for a while she asked me if I knew a person called John ........ who had lived next door to her family when she was a child.

This really astounded me, as John was my cousin.

He had been deceased for at least ten years.

We had been close when we were children, but I had not seen him for many years prior to his death, and did not visit him at his home.

When I told her that it was incredible that she should associate me with him - she just smiled and told me that a spirit within had given her the message.

Stranger than fiction?
Wierd anyway.

Joe · 17/09/2001 09:35

Lizzer and Jac, the following may interest you, we are not keen on sharing our experiences, as I have already mentioned but this one I will.
As I have already mentioned my sister can do the same as John Edward. She often sees my dog around the house, laying by the patio doors, his favourite place in the warm sun, he was put to sleep last year. She finds it hard to visit places like castles and anthing that has any history because of the people that approach her.
An old boyfriend had a brother whos best friend had suddenly died from a blood clot to her brain, he could nothing but watch. He always felt guilty that he could do nothing to save her. He had moved out of his bedroom as he was always cold in there. While my sister was there, she called her name and told her she needed to explain to her friend that there was nothing he could have done and she was ok. She followed my sister into the front room and sat on the settee next to my brother. As he moved his hand to the side it was cold, he moved it back, warm again. She told the girls friend, she described the girl and the clothes she was wearing (still the ones she was wearing the day she died). Once she had passed the message on the girl left (after playing with him by blowing on his neck, which he could feel) and he moved back into his room, now normal temp.
I have some more if you like but havnt got the time right now, too much work to be done.

Hedgehog · 18/09/2001 11:47

Hi,

on the subject of strange coincidences, I had recently a relationship with a a chap (whom, unfortunately, I fell in love with) who has the same name as one of my brothers, his brother has the same name as my other brother. My brother of the same name is born in the same Chinese horoscope year as him, I'm born in the same chinese horoscope year as his brother. It went further. The morning after I met him, I was standing in the kitchen with my morning mug of coffee in my hand, in my favourite "all men are pigs" mug, and the mug, which I had nurtured for 15 years and which I had bought after the relationship with the "love of my life" broke up, just slid out of my hand and smashed on the floor.

He recently dumped me because he claimed that I scared him. Ah well, alone again, but what on earth were all those strange coincidences (and there were more) meant to mean? I have no idea.

Lizzer · 18/09/2001 19:06

Hedgehog you're back!! How you doing?! I don't find you in the least bit scary by the way (perhaps you should re-buy a 'all men are pigs' cup, ha ha!!)

Hedgehog · 19/09/2001 07:47

Hi Lizzer,

Yes, I'm back!

I haven't been very communicative lately because I've been feeling very depressed and generally miserable- bogged down with divorce papers and the like. I'm crawling out of it slowly but being dumped recently didn't help at all. Ah well, life goes on!

Lizzer · 19/09/2001 14:44

Hedgehog - I hope you're feeling totally on top soon, glad you're feeling more like chatting again though, welcome back!!

Joe, got anymore tales of the unexpected?!

Tigermoth - do you fancy explaining your 'chance meetings leading to advice for the future' theory some more, please?

Lizzer, I know when my grandad is around because I smell his shed. When we first moved back to England we lived with my nana and grandad for a while and I always loved the smell of his shed. Every now and again I get that smell Im sure thats his way of telling me he is with me.
There is a story about my nana but cant remember it and my mum is on holiday, when she gets back I will get her to tell me.

My sister went upstairs to us the toilet and came back down saying there were all these people in my sons nursery waiting to see him, she didnt say who she tries not to let them in most of the time. Sometimes when she has had a drink she will let people come to her and she did this once at my house after drinking nearly a box of wine. Without going into to much detail this person had been with my hubby since we got married, she said he was with him at the wedding. He had had a chest complaint while he was alive which passed to her and she was having alot of trouble breathing for a while. She sometimes has to leave places because she gets bombarded by people (all people who have passed). She has to try and almost put a trap door on her head.
John Edward has been really good lately. He talks about so much personal detail that I dont know how anybody can think he is fake. I suppose it all depends if you want to believe or not. My husband found it hard when he married into the family that 'talks to dead people', but even he is coming round.

Star, he is brill, he is on Living everyday 12.00pm and 7.00 or 7.30 depending on the day as he sometimes does an hour. He talks to people who has passed, unmissable viewing.

Hedgehog · 21/09/2001 08:06

There is an interesting programme on Radio 4 at the moment about coincidences and synchronicity. I listen to it in my car on the way home from work, which is great because it means I do 15 minutes overtime every day in order to get into my car just as the programme starts!

I had a reading by a tarot reader/clairvoyant about 2 months ago (I felt I needed to hear SOMETHING good, even if it was all nonsense- just to cheer me up), she was amazingly accurate about the past- I just hope her predictions are just as accurate.

Snugs · 23/09/2001 16:03

I come from a family of psychics and mediums and I am currently going to 'development' classes myself to try to enhance what psychic ability I feel I have.

A few tips for anyone who wants to visit a medium and is sceptical. Never 'feed' them information. A genuine medium is happy to simply maintain a 'link' by hearing your voice, simple yes and no answers are enough. They shouldn't really need to ask you questions, they should tell you details instead. And if you don't instantly understand the information you are given, or recognise someone by the description, simply accept the message. You will often find that by talking to family members you may find out who the link is from (i.e. you might not recognise a description of your great-grandma, but your mum might!)

Lizzer · 23/09/2001 19:43

Snugs, thanks for your meassage,I have a question or two for you if that's ok?! Do you think that there are a lot of charaltans out there that are happy to rip people off? Is it possible for a psychic to be 'worn out' by taking too many people for readings in one day and therefore not be as acurate? Please tell me more about your family's gift too - I'd love to hear some tales!!

OP posts:
Snugs · 01/10/2001 17:33

Lizzie - sorry for delay in replying - am relying on my mums computer at the moment so don't get on every day.

Yes, there are a lot of charlatans out there, just as there are dodgy builders, electricians, plumbers etc, though admittedly they tend to be easier to spot! And yes, like any activity, over using a psychic ability can wear you out so any 'good' practioner would not overbook themselves.

Can't give a lot of examples just now (mum wants me to take my screaming, teething child back!) but to give you a quick idea of what we get up to:

My mum has in the past read tea leaves, tarot cards and hands. She is now developing as a clairvoyant(seeing) and a clairaudient (hearing) and can do some psychometry (reading from objects). I am trying to develop as a psychic artist.

By now most people are probably thinking my family are all a little bit mad!

I will try to think up some examples by the next time I log in (normally Mondays and Fridays - oh to have my own computer back!)

Lizzer · 02/10/2001 11:03

Snugs, I don't think you're mad at all! It's very interesting to hear something genuine, it gives me hope that I can find someone who can really give me an acurate reading. Does it seem odd to you being in that kind of environment or is it just everyday life to you? Have you always known there has been that element in your family? (sorry, questions questions...!)

Tlb · 02/10/2001 13:15

Just discovered this thread - all fascinating but one thing rang a bell, Jac, I have almost always been able to 'count'. I have never been very good at maths but if there is a large strange number to be calculated I will say oh it is roughly so and so and 9 times out of 10 the answer is spot on!! Honest. At fetes and fairs, especially when I was a lot younger I would guess the weight or number of smarties or something in a jar and always win as I got the EXACT figure. Totally bizarre, haven't been able to apply this to the lottery yet but I'll keep trying!!

I usually know who is ringing (if it is someone I know) on the telephone and I have been known to answer questions to someone when they have simply thought the question and not said it!!

But how much of this is simply a) mathematical genius!! b) wanting someone to ring and then everytime the phone rings you'll eventually get it right who knows..

I would love to see this John Edwards thing but I don't have digital/cable etc.. is it going to be on terrestrial?

Oh, Lizzer, I saw a medium many years ago when I was in a very unhappy marriage. I didn't feed her any answers (even took my wedding ring off) etc. She told ne straight away that divorce was goign to happen, that I was close to having an affair (I was and she described him) She also described the woman who my husband was having his affair with (the bas*d) accurately. She told me I would move and live near water. I moved back to London (after my divorce) and two months later I had the opportunity to live in the docklands in a town house which backed onto a manmade lake!!

I also rang one of those tarot lines - total rubbish but it made me feel better!! and I saw a tarot reader to see if she could back up the previous mediums predictions and she was dreadful couldn't even tell me anything accurate about myself.

I kept in contact for a little while with the first medium and she told me that her and her husband (who was also psychic) had seen their divorce in the cards so they divorced!!!

I wouldn't go to one now as I am relatively happy with my life and wouldn't want to hear anything awful!!

Lizzer · 03/10/2001 11:11

Wow, Tlb you sound like my friend who is really intuitive (sp?) I am constantly freaked out by her timing on things like phoning me just as I'm about to phone her etc. Maybe you could 'train' yourself mentally to be really specific somehow (and THEN buy a lottery ticket!)

OP posts:
Tlb · 03/10/2001 15:10

Oh Lizzer if only we had the time to indulge in our psychic training!! Then maybe I would win the lotto - i'll try tonight!!

Snugs · 10/10/2001 10:36

Lizzer - sorry for delay in replying again - I've been in hospital with viral meningitis (didn't see that one coming!)

Yes, I have grown up with the assumption that spirits and the like are a natural part of life. It took me a while to figure out that most people are not so open minded. Like Joe's family, I don't tend to discuss it openly unless I already know the other persons views - saves a lot of ridicule if you are speaking to someone who is a total non-believer. I was more open when I was younger but learnt by my mistakes - for example I went through 3 years of severe bullying at one of my schools and was known as 'the witch' (never told my mum about that!)

It is easier now since I am obviously more confident as an adult - plus the subject is much more widely discussed and accepted than it was when I was a child.

The next generation in our family just take it in their stride. My sisters children especially are very 'tuned in'.

I believe that everyone has the ability to 'see' spirits. The imaginary friends that kids have are probably spirits - because a child's mind is still open enough to see and accept them. The ability is then pushed back because the child, as it grows, realises that no-one else can see their friends and assumes it is imagination. But if the child is raised to accept that there is nothing wrong in talking to someone that no-one else can see, they are more likely to use that ability and therefore it will grow and strengthen. My family don't push any of the kids into this side of things, just let them ask questions whenever they want and answer them as openly as possible. It is up to them to decide if they want to follow up on any of their psychic abilities when they get older.

Joe · 10/10/2001 10:54

My god snugs are you fully recovered.

Snugs · 10/10/2001 14:27

Joe - On the mend thanks. Still got a disgusting headache though so keep having to have lots of naps (good excuse for having hubby look after the kids!)

Lizzer · 10/10/2001 15:04

I think your excuse was a pretty good one Snugs, I'm glad you're getting better. What a frightening time for you. Thanks for all the info, I feel bad for harrassing you now! I think you are so right that people get pushed away from listening to their instincts, even when it comes down to things like parenting...

Tlb, if you don't reply soon I'll be guessing you have won the lottery last week!!

Joe, you got any more stories for little old me?!!
