Are there ANY disadvantages to buying an ex-showhome??

Fangache · 10/10/2005 13:06

I'm going to view an ex-showhome soon. It looks lovely! But the price is a little bit less than I would have expected for an ex-showhome!

Do they tend to be a bit cheaper than the price of the brand new houses around them? And are there any reasons NOT to go for a showhome. Its amazing!!! 4 bed detached in a very good area for OO £136k !

My aunt sells these sorts of houses. She is staggered by the amount of people who want to buy the showhome just as it is!
(Faux fruit, pot pourri, cardboard books and all...)

Very nice fangache-a bargain at the price!

seb1 · 10/10/2005 14:12

From the map the other one in Keppock Place is just along the road so that gives you 3 to look at

Fangache · 10/10/2005 14:25

Seb1 - Yup, noticed that too. Thats me got 3 to look at on Sunday!!

Better get our house on the market eh!

How are you going to last till Sunday!! . Are there any other areas in and around Falkirk you would consider or are you pretty set on that area, I was very set on areas when we moved and it makes it really hard

expatinscotland · 10/10/2005 15:44

I bought an ex showhome once. And it WAS fab as was first-time buyer then.

Fangache · 10/10/2005 15:48

Seb1 - My days just FLY over!!

Not set on that area at all. I just know there are certain areas I won't touch with a barge pole!

Larbert and Stenhousemuir are lovely too.

Sounds great Expat! This one is empty though.

expatinscotland · 10/10/2005 15:54

Empty! ! Does it come w/appliances, at least??

The gardens are usually fixed up in the showhome. That was super nice!

seb1 · 10/10/2005 15:56

What about this

maddiston

seb1 · 10/10/2005 16:02

Or this

larbert

Fangache · 10/10/2005 16:03

Why is that shocking Expat? We have our own furniture anyway! The appliances are mostly built in... like the oven/hob and dishwasher.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 10/10/2005 16:05

I thought the showhome came w/all the furniture. Ach, well, some of it was naff. But we sold that off.

I suppose the developer uses the furniture in other showhomes.

Fangache · 10/10/2005 16:05

Maddiston is a bit dodgy apparently.... but the one in Larbert is another consideration! Creeping up in price a bit though.... would rather not break the £150k mark.

Are you having fun Seb1??

Am trying to work out whether our garden is north facing now we get sun through patio doors in the evening, front windows in the morning (if we ever got any sun that is) I prefer no 6

you will have to tell us how you get on toothy am very jealous but am never never moving house again am building extension for bedroom no 4!!!

seb1 · 10/10/2005 16:10

Yep, I love looking never really stopped since my last move, we sold very quickly 1 week, and thinking I had nowhere to live spent my life on www searching and I think it became a habit

Fangache · 10/10/2005 16:12

SK - In that case you either have an East or West facing garden! Can't remember which.... I think the sun sets in the East.

Seb1 - Lol... carry on please!

OP posts:
seb1 · 10/10/2005 16:17

Better get a compass to check direction don't believe estate agent!!!

sweetkitty · 10/10/2005 16:20

I thought the sun set in the West I dunno I'm useless at these things.

Our house is only 3 years old and still magnolia everywhere, it's weird as the previous owners hadn't decorated at all no curtain poles/blinds in most of the rooms, no toilet roll holders etc nice in some ways but a pain in others. We left our appliances in London and didn't get any in here so we have had to go out and buy everything again

Fangache · 10/10/2005 16:21

You could be right SK, perhaps it rises in the East?

OP posts:
seb1 · 10/10/2005 16:24

The house we bought was 3 years old had no cutrainpoles, they had based their colour scheme on a pack of highlighters and left us some pictures, well they had stuck them to the wall with no nails

Enid · 10/10/2005 16:25

thanks for that house price website seb1

I have been itching to know what people paid for a house in our village (it went to sealed bids) and now I know! And am gobsmacked! (£671,000-and it is semi detached)

sweetkitty · 10/10/2005 16:26

carpets in the bathrooms as well - I hate that!

Fangache · 10/10/2005 16:26

Enid - How many bedrooms? 43?

OP posts:
seb1 · 10/10/2005 16:27

Mine had carpets in the bathromms aswell!!!!

seb1 · 10/10/2005 16:30

Enid, you must stay somewhere very posh!!!
