Are there ANY disadvantages to buying an ex-showhome??

I'm going to view an ex-showhome soon. It looks lovely! But the price is a little bit less than I would have expected for an ex-showhome!

Do they tend to be a bit cheaper than the price of the brand new houses around them? And are there any reasons NOT to go for a showhome. Its amazing!!! 4 bed detached in a very good area for OO £136k !

What number Glengarry Crescent?

Fangache · 10/10/2005 13:47

Actually Gomez, I don't know! I hadn't noticed it was missing. I've arranged a viewing online, so hopefully they will contact me with the full address. How come?

Looks great although the dining room seems a bit small to me. Assuuming those doors are maximum 6 ft across you won't get much of a table in there with the radiator too (ours is similar size!)

Fangache · 10/10/2005 13:48

LIZS - Anything is better than the 2 bed ex-council house we're squeeeeeezed into at the moment! This will seem like a palace!

Isn't this one just along the road you could look at this as it has furniture in it to give you a better idea
house
Had a look on nethouseprice this one was sold in feb 2003 for £105000

Gomez · 10/10/2005 13:49

'Cause I was being nosey and looking to see if it had sold before and then we (you )know if it had been lived in before.....

projectmanagerCOd · 10/10/2005 13:50

walking through the living room could driv you nuts

furniture too big

seb1 · 10/10/2005 13:50

Also link has schedule attached so you can see room sizes HTH

Fangache · 10/10/2005 13:50

Seb1 - I didn't even know there were houses there in 2003!

OP posts:
LIZS · 10/10/2005 13:50

actually agree with cod - washing line and satellite dish suggests someone has lived there !

Fangache · 10/10/2005 13:51

I suppose it doesn't actually say that no-one has ever lived there.

sister is about to move form a hosue with no hall ( they have outgrwon it about two million years ago) and it drives her bananas

Fangache · 10/10/2005 13:52

I don't have a hall at the moment either.

I suppose it's all relative, when you see what we are living in at the moment you'll see why I'm SO excited about this place.

seb1 · 10/10/2005 13:53

Price is for second one not ex-showhouse

Fangache · 10/10/2005 13:56

I'm on the phone to the Est Agent right now asking about whether anyone has lived in it before or not. She's not being very helpful!

Mental note to self: Don't use Slater Hogg to sell my house!!!

seb1 · 10/10/2005 13:58

Found you one in same street for fixed price. Do you want to see it . I love looking for houses!!!

Fangache · 10/10/2005 13:58

Here we go

new house

Fangache · 10/10/2005 14:03

Oh WOW!!
THe ex-showhouse is number 3 and this is number 6! Going to arrange a viewing of both.

Thanks Seb1!

OP posts:
princesspeahead · 10/10/2005 14:05

excellent. and even if you prefer the showhouse you at least know that you shouldn't pay more than 144k for it...

Fangache · 10/10/2005 14:05

Exactly PPH. Oh I just want a bigger house!

OP posts:
princesspeahead · 10/10/2005 14:07

top tip...if one is 3 and one is 6 they are probably on opp sides of the road - don't buy one with a north facing back garden! you'll never get any sun in it and the grass will always be manky.

seb1 · 10/10/2005 14:09

Your exshowhouse no 6 was sold in April 2003 for £101,000

Fangache · 10/10/2005 14:12

Seb1 - You're a star.

PPH - 1st thing I'll be doing is slabbing over the garden anyway! I'm allergic to grass (and gardening).

OP posts:
LIZS · 10/10/2005 14:12

Chances are if it is already empty they'll want a quick sale and would probably take slightly less than 144k. They'll know that 2 others similar are up for grabs if they turn you down. Good point about the sun in the garden , pph.

Getting all excited on your behalf, Fangache !!
