went on e bay and won a bid last night but don't know what I am supposed to pay?I put a bid in and won but there were no other bids. The sub total told me to pay the starting price not my bided price which was higher is that how it goes? And does the seller not no how much you have bid in these cases?

happycat, you pay the starting price. When you bid on ebay you put in the amount up to which you want the system to bid for you.

So if the starting price is £1 and you say you will go up to £2, the system bids £1 on your behalf. Then if the next person comes along and says they will go up to £3, it outbids you. If they only say they will go up to £1.50 then it will bid £1.60 on your behalf so that you have outbid them. It says on the bidding page what the increments are (eg 10p £1 etc.)

Good system as you don't have to pay as much as you would, just a bit more than everyone else.

The guy selling will not see what you would have paid ie your max bid.

I sent an e mail to the seller this morning saying there must have been a mistake and I will pay my bidding price. It was only 20p but I will now know for next time.I though as soon as I had sent the message that maybe something like that happens.Thankyou so much for explaining it cheers SamboM..wonder if the seller will mail back and be honest with me?

I'm sure he will. Check his feedback (this is how you get a good reputation on ebay, by getting feedback from buyers/sellers) If it is good, send him a mail saying that you are new and that you didn't understand.

Suggest you read the ebay users guide!
