Dh is impressed!!!!! You press F8 during reboot and select last known good menu or something like that . Or try system restore . Go to Help, search for system restore

KristinaM · 07/10/2005 22:14

You do realise, dont you, that if he cant fix it he will be crushed. His fragile male ego will never recover. And i will still be ice creamless. And 33 weeks pregnant. and middle aged. and fat . Are you crying yet??

katymac · 07/10/2005 22:15

Did system restore and it worked for about 4 seconds - so I'll try again

KristinaM · 07/10/2005 22:29

sorry Dh is out of ideas

sorry about the child too. we have a special place in our hearts for SN kids. it can be so hard to find carers willing to even try. bless you!

katymac · 07/10/2005 22:43

Find your mouse / touchpad entry in the hardware profile and remove it. Upon reboot Windows will probably redetect the hardware and install correct drivers for it.

As you know, I haven't used Windows in an age, so don't know my way around the current iteration of 'Control Panel' but it'll be in there somewhere.

Anyone ever suggest you get a mac ?

pmsl.

KristinaM · 07/10/2005 22:45

just remember to put some exciting words in the title - eg kate moss, flounce, circumcision, private schooling, breast vs bottle etc

katymac · 07/10/2005 22:50

Hate you Hub2dee

I am still waiting fro my free mac (I hate my brother too)

Thanks Kristina

Put aside your feelings for a moment and remain rational, woman.

Control Panel / Hardware / Add Remove / Touchpad

(well, something like that)

And delete the touchpad. Next time it reboots Windows goes 'cor blimey, guv, we're short a touchpad' and Robert is your mother's brother.

Mine's still for sale, but the price has gone up.

katymac · 07/10/2005 22:57

Nope Robert is my dad

did that and when I rebooted it was still disabled (or is that unenabled)

OP posts:
hub2dee · 07/10/2005 23:02

If it's disabled you need to ENABLE it.

I would have thought that was obvious to a woman of your talents...

hub2dee · 07/10/2005 23:03

You must mean disabled as in 'not working' rather than disabled as in 'an option to temporarily suspend driver loading for a given piece of hardware' ?

katymac · 07/10/2005 23:03

I disabled it
I rebooted
I reenabled it

  • it didn't work

I did it again just for fun - it didn't work

I think it's bust

Is there a 'Windows Wizard' thingy to 'redetect all your crapped out hardware which doesn't work' ?

Also, did ACER give you a diagnostic CD ? If you run it it says something like 'your mouse is buggered. Call support'

Might be a loose connection between touchpad and motherboard but more likely it is Windoze being thick.

katymac · 07/10/2005 23:15

probably - I'll have a look tomorrow

Thanks
