computer has been hijacked - anti spyware urgent help needed

Have got a hijacker (?) somehow downloaded on computer. Norton antivirus can't get rid of it and need to get anti spyware downloaded to fix problem. anybody recommend/used mcafee or another program

My computer man recommended Ad-aware se from Lavasoft as about the best anti-spyware software going. I guess if you google Lavasoft you could download it.
