ds has been a bit poorly for the last few days. thought it was teeth coming through, although not so sure now!

anyway he has been waking in the night and i was giving him calpol in case it was teeth hurting.

he also started refusing his bottle point blank and just screaming... didn't want dummy, didn't want bottle, didn't want to go to bed
however, if i give him a spoonful of calpol he will then immediately take the bottle!

this evening he did it and i gave him a spoonful of water with a little bit of sugar in and voila... took the bottle (having screamed for AGES beforehand and point blank refused it)

what's with that? he's only 8 months old!

ha ha, they love it. think coz its sweet and sticky.

wait til he can say it.

I've given dd Calpol about 10 times ever, still on first bottle and she is 20 months old. And yet she asks for it sometimes.

Go figure.

can he be doing it on purpose? at 8 months?

Sorry to sound boring but he could just be "thirsty" after all that screaming... why not try boiled (but cooled of course!) water instead of a bottle?

startingtobehalloweenylover · 05/10/2005 23:08

nope tried that!
he's been doing it in the middle of the night which is annoying. bottle is last resort, as is calpol

but he has been refusing bottles that he is due for iyswim.
he has a last one before bed and just refuses it now until he has had calpol!!!

Has he got a cold?

startingtobehalloweenylover · 05/10/2005 23:12

yes. very snotty.

it's odd thuogh because he takes his morning bottle fine.
he has 2 during the day which he sometimes takes and sometimes doesn't
and then the one at night.

he wants it, but he will refuse it until given something on a white spoon!

It's not the calpol he's wanting or the spoon I'm sure and don't give in to that being the only solution, as tempting as it may be. Perhaps he needs propping up a bit at night instead of laying flat? To help his breathing.

When mine were little some nights if they were really bunged up I'd put them in their car seat in the bedroom so they were at an angle and - magic trick coming up - 3 drops of lavender oil on a tissue somewhere in the room...

Very soothing - swore by it - and slept better!

startingtobehalloweenylover · 05/10/2005 23:22

he is propped up. he has karvol on a muslin by his head.
he is waking up and then screaming.
i have tried:
leaving him in cot
cuddling him
giving him dummy
giving him bottle
dp cuddling him
both of us standing by the cot with him

nothing works! as i said.. it's a last resort. i don't just hand it out willy nilly...

Wasn't implying you were giving it out willy nilly... honest!

startingtobehalloweenylover · 05/10/2005 23:26

ok... seriously though, i try everything i can think of, and then the white spoon appears and he calms down straight away, has whatever is on it and then takes the bottle!

strange child

OK. So take him to calpoholics anonymous then...

startingtobehalloweenylover · 05/10/2005 23:29

lol

i guess i will wean him off it. earlier he had sugar water so i will just make it plain water. see if that works

RainbowWalker · 05/10/2005 23:32

good idea... but do get some lavender essential oil when you get the chance - brill stuff!

startingtobehalloweenylover · 05/10/2005 23:35
