I'm on ad's for PND (about 2 months) and I'm putting weight on yet I'm not eating anymore and am very active. I was on ad's about 6 years ago and put on weight then too. It say's in the literature that you may loose weight but I know other people who've had a similar experience. Can we do a bit of a survey?

I have started putting on weight with my antidepressants even thought it says I shoud loose weight.

i am eating more though, am always hungry so I shoudn't be surprised.

What AD are you on. I am on Lustral/sertraline.

Hi TSaP. Are they helping though?

I'm on fuoxetine (prozac) and they've done the trick wonderfully for the PND. The doctor did say when I asked that weight gain usually corrolates to heightened mood but I really don't think I've been eating much more than normal + I've been doing 2 miles on the cross trainer almost every day. I put on more weight than ever before the last time I took them, about 2 stones which fell off when I stopped taking them..hmmm

mine said you may gain weight but i lost it. you could try a different type

It can be the case that depression reduces interest in food and eating (can also have the opposite effect). If the depression is helped, then people may enjoy eating more/ eating more varied foods and may put weight on, at least in the short term. The drugs themselves don't put the weight on IYSWIM.

good point hmb. i eat nothing but chocolate when depressed so could very well be the case

The leaflet that came with the ads I used to take said that they could cause changes in weight - it didn't specify which way, but several of the books I've read about ads say that they can cause either weight loss or weight gain.

monkeytrousers · 02/10/2005 20:35

Did it come off quickly when you stopped?

I don't know whether they are helping to be honest, am going to the doctor for a review next week.

They seemed to be doing the job and then the pre menstrual period kicked in and I sunk again.

They have also made me a bit hyper and I have become very snappy.

But it has only been a month.

Give them a bit of time. I think they take about 6 weeks to reach optimum levels. I'll be thinking of you. Take care.
