Wiki just means super-quick, in some language I can't remember, so wikipedia is a fast, informal encyclopedia.

Was that what you meant? Sorry if I have misunderstood.

You probably meant it in this sense though:

what is wiki?

I think I am right about the origin of the word, though. Hope this helps.

As I am stuck at home most nights I was thinking of setting a wiki up for Mums so just wanted to find out if anyone knows what they are / how to use them. Obviously not many!

Blimey, what a good idea. I am sure we could get the hang of it, even if not many people know how to use one already.

Sorry I misunderstood what you were after. Thought it was maybe your child's homework question or something you wanted an answer to!

Thanks for the encouragement.

I think a wiki would be a useful place for info that comes up regularly on discussion threads eg health tips and for people's opinions about their local schools. It means that the person could add the info directly.

If people can send use discussion forums and a word processor then it is not a very big step to adding to a wiki.

Yes manicmum, and lists of baby pasta stockists

That certainly made me laugh - MaloryTiptonTowers - the wiki I am planning is definitely NOT rude. It is just like a big database which any visitor to the site can add to. So hopefully Mums will add all pool all their useful opinions which anyone can access or edit at any time.

Frannyf - do let me know what you think should be included. Any ideas gratefully received
