Any of you wise ones any advice on choosing a first watch ? Dd is very keen to have one for her birthday but can only do O'clocks and half-pasts at the moment.

I saw ELC have some which have the dial split into 2 colours for the minutes 'to' and 'past'; others seem to have extra numbers to help with the in-betweens eg 20 next to 4 for twenty past. Does this sort of thing help or is it just to sell stuff to gullible first timers ?

Ow, sorry, should have previewed properly, the pun was unintentional.

I saw the ELC one too but think the kids swatch ones are much nicer. We bought my ds one for his 5th birthday recently. They are pricier (around £16-£20) but IMO a much better watch and likely to last longer. It is also washable in a washing machine although not tried that yet !!
The swatch kids stuff is called flik flak and can be found at www.flikflak.com/index.php (sorry, can't do links). The website is great as ds looked through all the different watches and chose the one he liked himself.

The ELC one sounds similiar to the one my dd has similar which was bought in H samuels jewellers about £10-£15 and they insure it for a year for £1 so that if the child has accident with it its covered
hope this helps

Thanks both of you ! I'll investigate both ideas.

Argos sell a boys and girls "first" watch. Same principal as ELC but the girl one is more girly. Dd is 3.5 and absolutely loves it. Also Timex cover the watches against loss and will replace them for a fiver! Good news as dd has had hers for 2 weeks and already it's lost! Need to have a big tidy up me thinks
