Kids clothes - where do you shop?

I need to go shopping for my DD who is 4 and has done some serious growing since last Autumn as I discovered this weekend when her trousers and top I put her in had "shrunk" by a few inches! So it's time to shop for some new clothes and I thought I'd just put a post up to see which shops come recommended. I usually shop at George (HUGE Asda down the road, so its convenient and cheap), however the last few weeks of clothes are uninspiring and my DD is turning her nose up at them! The Next catalogue is full of pink (I am so bored of that colour), and a quick trip of BHS, H&M and Adams left me uninspired.

So my question is which shops or catalogues do you shop in?

Like:Gap, Hennes, (but not the huge logo things), MiniBoden, Vertbaudet, the odd Petit Bateau item in their sale, John Lewis, Monsoon, esp for little boys, M&S for undies.
Don't like: Next (naff slogans + tarty things for little girls), George (dreary colours), anything over priced and over adulticised, eg. Hilfiger baby, Elle, Burberry etc. Far too expensive and chavtastic.

There are 11 Dunnes Stores in UK now dunnes

I buy all dd's clothes from either H&M, M&S or Next.

I found that Matalans sizes are very inconsistent and they sometimes shrink in the wash. The same goes for George.

I had a look at La Redoute and they have some fab things in this season so I'm tempted to get a few bits from them.
If I were a bit more well off I would shop at Monsoon as I love their kids stuff.

NCT nearly new sales - they are the best. went to one in Clapham in south London at weekend. it was like the first day at Harrods sale. Such a scrum, but great stuff

there is one this Saturday in Wilmslow, Cheshire, if anyone is interested?

Bran - there used to be a Dunnes in Southampton where I got a lot of clothes for dd, and got loads of comments on them. Really nice and inexpensive. Unfortunately there are none near anywhere I ever visit.

H&M, Zara and Gap

Next for jeans (but not tops as they always have 'next' on them and they aren't up to much either)

At the moment the boys have tops from Linea (House of Fraser), Boden, vertbaudet, John Lewis (Quicksilver), Mothercare (they've got some nice stuff in for younger ones).

Don't really like M&S for boys and I find Tesco stuff is just really poor quality - Ok for in the park though. I like stuff that can be passed on to the next child and you deffo can't do that with Tesco I find. The best for that has been Linea (House of Fraser) and apparently Boden (only just ordered from there).

Must confess that I don't even think of Boden because I assume that it's pricy....am I wrong? Should I reconsider?

Gobbledigook · 27/09/2005 20:34

I've never bought from there before either but the reasons I finally went for it are:

  1. everyone tells me it's such good quality that you can hand it down - I've got 3 boys so that's worth it for me

  2. I never get to go shopping so I like to order online so it's another shop to add to my list

  3. I wanted to buy stuff you don't see everyone wearing

The tops are marginally more expensive than I might buy - say £12-14 whereas I might normally spend £8-10, but I don't think that's very expensive - especially if it does last.

ah posey, Dunnes in Southampton. I used to go in there. What a blatant rip-off of M&S!! Even down to the "St Bernard" branding versus "St Michael"

Actually, hasn't M&S dropped that now?

Agree E-bay. I'm selling some adult clothes on there at the moment, whoever buys them is getting a real bargain, it's all M&S stuff, hardly worn. Lots of kids stuff on there
