Nail Biting

I have just found out that my son, who has always been a nightmare at eating has extreme aneamia. I took him to our GP because his appetite is so poor and also he was biting his nails (he is only 21/2)
We was then sent for a blood test and it has come back that he is aneamic. I feel absolutely dreadful has any one else experience this?

No experience - but don't feel too dreadful. No parent can guarantee their child's health. You did what a good parent does - worried about him and took him to the doctor. Have you had any advice as to what to do next?

I was diagnosed with the same at 28 weeks pregnant (wondered why I had been feeling so rotten). I know that pregnancy makes you more vulnerable but I was genuinely amazed as I really believed my diet was very good. Anyway, don't beat yourself up about it. I presume he has been prescribed iron supplements?. I felt better almost straightaway after taking these.

Yes, he has been supplied with an iron syrup supplement (Fersamal) and amazingly I had to cut his nails yesterday,it really has stopped him biting them. Although no hugh significant improvement on the eating front! But one problem over come at least. I just wish that there was a miracle tablet to get him to have an appetit. I did read somewhere that B12 is meant to help, but I have not checked it out with the doctor yet,and feel a little apprehensive just to go ahead. Has anyone else heard of this?
