Do you have a song that reminds you of a certain time in your life?

I have 3 that sit in my mind.

The first is "Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush. It reminds me of when I lived in a flat in Birmingham and had lots of different men on the go (those were the days!!) and all I had to worry about was what drink I was going to have in the pub.

The next is "Dancing on the Floor", by Third World as it reminds me of a bloke I had an exciting and illicit fling with, as he played it in his car a lot

And the third is "Black Night" by Deep Purple, as it reminds me of when I was a student. Enough said really!!!!!

Dropinthe, you could deliver lozengers by hand if you want. Its still lovely and warm here.

Rowlers · 23/09/2005 14:15

I'd agree with the 80's thing - must be a growing up thing as so many are very evocative of my teenage years.

ChaCha · 23/09/2005 14:15

Moondog - Hee he!!

Em..I'm trying to work out the link between a song and a link, perhaps i'm just thick!! Something about pigs?

Mosschops - Thanks - I'm sad, I have them downloaded on PC. Also forgot to add Warren G. Went through certain phases in my life..oh yes and puff daddy. Wish i'd had the net back in the day, would have save a lot of embarrassment when singing what i thought were the right lyrics

NomDePlume · 23/09/2005 14:18

Anything by Simply Red makes me think of my waste of space wa*kstain of a father. But that's not for here....

moondog · 23/09/2005 14:23

NdP..that seems like a rather odd association....unless Mick Hucknall is actually your dad!!?

Fio2 · 23/09/2005 14:29

no chris rea and chris de burgh remind me of my twat dad aswell

NomDePlume · 23/09/2005 14:30

Ewwww, no moondog. In fact, being more specific, the album 'Stars' winds me up the most. My d*d was a big fan.

Wordsmith · 23/09/2005 14:31

Crazy Horses!!!

(By the Osmonds, not whatever band did it a couple of years ago)

Reminds me of me yoooth... Still love it today.

diva4mgl · 23/09/2005 14:31

Ace of Base ( my uni days )
White snake Is this love ( first time met dh)
Scorpions Wind of change ( high school)

moondog · 23/09/2005 14:34

diva, you share Eastern Europe's love of this style of music!!

(Priviet! Kak di la?)

Marina · 23/09/2005 14:37

Issymum, that has just made me well up. Sometimes the most seemingly banal songs just zing home. I still find Angels by Robbie Williams and I'm Sticking with You by the Velvet Underground unbearable to listen to now because they were all over the TV and radio at the time our ds2 was stillborn.
I did my major break-up to Say Hello, Wave Goodbye, moo! These johnny-come-lately miserablists like Keane and Snow Patrol just don't cut it like The Cure or Soft Cell do they
And my happy moments records are Take this Waltz by Leonard Cohen, reminds me of dh, and the otherwise dire Elton John Are You Ready for Love, which is just perfect for dd

Marina · 23/09/2005 14:38

Wordsmith, we were doing a version of that song with dd this morning, to jolly her out of a tantrum: "crazy toddlers! woooo! woooo!" It didn't work and I think she may have snuck home to pack her bags...

Rhubarb · 23/09/2005 14:40

this is my dh and ds, it literally brought tears to my eyes watching the vid!

Rhubarb · 23/09/2005 14:42

You have to give it a minute to load, well worth it though!

AnnieSG · 23/09/2005 14:44

Flamebat, how lovely to be reminded of 'Blister in the sun.' I loved that at college too, so I reckon we must both be the same advanced age!!!!
I had another Violent Femmes one, Add it up, on a tape I left in my dad's car.One day he came in and said, 'I've just been listening to a song with very interesting lyrics..'
For anyone who doesn't know (which is probably everyone apart from Flamebat, let's face it) the words start off as 'why can't I get just one kiss...then turn into 'why can't I get, just one f**k'.

moondog · 23/09/2005 14:44

Lol marina! Might try it on my dd.She's such a misery in the morning. They must have been taking the piss with that song!

marthamoo · 23/09/2005 14:45

Oh issymum - and [happy]

Say Hello, Wave Goodbye is another song of that time and would definitely be on my list, Marina - such brilliant lyrics. They just don't write them like that any more.

marthamoo · 23/09/2005 14:45

Don't ask me why I typed happy instead of smile - melt down of brain moment, it's all this reminiscing.

Marina · 23/09/2005 14:46

All together now moondog: Hear them shouting! on the landing! Crazy toddlers yowling everywhere! I cannot see why it did not work instantaneously.

ChaCha · 23/09/2005 14:48

Oh my gosh, I am in tears!!!!!!!
Maybe pregnancy hormones and the fact that DH is a tradesman and i'm expecting a boy...Oh my....sniffle

Pagan · 23/09/2005 14:48

LOL at Road Rage by Catatonia - that song (and her voice) makes me ill anyway.

For me Down Under by Men at Work reminds me of school. S-express reminds me of first encounter at college (cringe). Anything by Beck or Blur reminds me of the freedom days between exDH and new DH. Loveshack reminds me of heady days in California and Hey Ya by Outkast reminds me of being pregnant with our first.

ChaCha · 23/09/2005 14:49

and that's too Rhubarb!

Wordsmith · 23/09/2005 14:51

LOL Marina! I'll try Crazy Toddlers with my 17 month old.

We already do a version of Deep Purple when I'm giving him a wash: "HAAAANDS...in the water!!"

ChaCha · 23/09/2005 14:51

Pagan, yet another example of why i wish we'd had the net to search lyrics on those days. I had been singing that S-express song as:

"i'd rock the house for you" maybe i was a bit too innocent.
