5 hours to cook a chicken???

Our house is rented and came with a cooker. The top is gas, oven is electric and not fan assisted. It takes us, on average, 5 hours to cook a medium size chicken, 3 hours to cook a 45min duck and an hour to cook a pizza!! I told them it was broken, they sent someone out and he said it's not broken, it just takes that long because it's not fan assisted. Is that right or is he trying it on??

Can't believe it takes 5 hours!!!

Definitely trying it on. Have just upgraded from an old electric oven (not fan assisted) to a fan assisted one.

Even the old cooker (which I think was on the slow side) would cook a 3 lb chicken in 2 hours at 200 deg c. The new one takes 1.5 hrs.

Jeez! It must be rubbish- chickens just don't take 5 hours to cook in any oven that produces heat!

i had a non-fan electric oven at my old flat. never used to take 5hours to cook a medium chicken. two hours generally.

you need an oven temp gauge thing so you can check what actual temperature the oven is and adjust acorfingly

Thought so! Now I see why my Mum laughed at me when I told her lol

it usualy takes 20 minutes per pound of chicken plus 20 minutes at around 180 degrees. so for a 3 pound chicken it should take arounf 1 hour and 20 minutes. They are having you on
