SoupDragon · 19/09/2005 21:55

No, TC, they are FREE because you were GIVEN the moneyfor them. Pay attention, dear

SleepyJess · 19/09/2005 21:55

Ha! Try telling that to Some People on BW (DDD) TC! It's 'money for nothing' don't you know! So in effect, the cars are FREE! Yippeee! I'll have several!

Exactly, Thomcat!

Why begrudge someone with physical disabilities a better quality of life?

Isn't that what society is about?

Man, ten years after my horrible accident which left me w/4 knee surgeries, I am SO grateful to be able to walk I deliberately park as far away from the point of entry wherever possible, walk where we can, etc.

Fio2 · 19/09/2005 21:56

sleepyjess is being sarcastic fgs

Davros · 19/09/2005 21:56

Haven't read all of this.
I don't have a problem personally with paying to park but totally agree with having better access to parking iyswim because we can afford it. Many disabled people can't and their ability to pay is related to their disability. BUT having 2 levels may be fairer but hard to administer etc. And the "free" parking is not for me, its for my 10 year old DS who doesn't have an income. Also, because I am a carer, I have no income. DH is the one withi the income. And you do have to pay quite often. When I go to the local shopping centre, we can use a special space but we still have to pay the same as everyone else. Sorry, bit of a stream of consciousness!

Yes, starshaker. But you know, able-bodied people do have the option of taking on more work and generating more income to afford a car. This is NOT possible for many disabled people.

laughinglil · 19/09/2005 21:57

but why should disabled people be different if there is 'equal rights' if somebody gets free parking then why shouldn't anybody else? I understand parking in supermarkets, shops ... being closer and I completly agree with that . However I don't think it is right that disabled people (or people with a badge) can park anywhere and get away with it!

monkeytrousers · 19/09/2005 21:57

Sorry, Thomcat, x posts. Am very drunk and angry!

Fio2 · 19/09/2005 21:58

well i still think all parking should be free unless it is in a privately owned car park, but only joolstoo agreed with me so.....

Thomcat · 19/09/2005 21:58

Oh of course, yes sorry, people who are disabled get totally free cars, I'm getting a merc, probably do a mercedes sports, 2 seater job. All those additional things that me and my lot by for our disbled kids, we get it all free, and I'm going to Barbados on your taxes next year, not taking my disabled kid, too much hassle, I mean she can';t bloody walk, she's better off in a corner, with no stimulation or love!

misdee · 19/09/2005 21:58

starshaker. i dont drive atm. (test next week) i have laways managed with bikes and these things called legs. my kids walk a mile to school then i walk another mile to get dd2 to preschool. nearest shops are close but charge stupid prices for a pint of milk. so to go to the supermarket involves planning that is BUSES!! i have to cross a main road with a 5yr old, 3yr old and a baby, wait there for a bus, get to the supermarket (about an hour on the bus), do shopping only getting as much as i can get on the buggy, then get home.

i can do it, its awkard but i can, my husband cannot. at all. he cant even walk to the bus stop. let alone get on the bus and then do the shopping.

god i hope monkey trousers comment is said in sarcasm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i bet you wouldn't say that if you were disabled!!!

I think the cost of parking is the slightest thing that would get down a disabled person surely??? but us who are lucky enough to not be in their situation could surely not be 'jelous' of a tiny perk (in the scale of things)like free parking.

misdee · 19/09/2005 21:59

because laughinglil you are not the one forking out for hospital car parking fees each week.

Thomcat · 19/09/2005 21:59

FGS yourself ...

starshaker · 19/09/2005 22:00

yes i could but its cheaper to take the car as we need it for other things like my job. i can work so can some disabled people. i can get the bus so can some disabled people. i know some people that are disabled and earn more than the average person but still have free parking. if some1 doesnt have the use of there legs it doenst mean they dont have the use of there hands brain etc. they might still have the potential to earn. i do know some dont then yeah they can have free parking i dont have a prob with some1 having free parking if they need it
