Is it right that disabled people should get free parking??

I am having this discussion elsewhere and amazed at some of the views. Just wanted to see what the general concesuss was on here.. without spouting my own views!

laughinglil - we don't live on an equal playing field. people with disabilities are serioulsy disabled not only by their 'disability' but by the society they live in which is built to facilliate the lives of able bodied people so is a serious disabling factor to others who are not.

Wow Misdee, good luck, hope you pass!!! The whole debate is just nonsense, as I said in that last and very incoherent post, my DS doesn't have an income and nor do I. The idea that we are getting something for nothing is just bonkers! Mind you, I do take advantage of my blue badge. I am very, very naughty. I use it when DS isn't with me and I'm not supposed to I was so, so good at first but then got so many stupid parking tickets because I made mistakes as it is soooo complicated AND I always had DS wit me, that I VOWED I would not pay for paking in my borough if I didn't have to. I got back the fines but it took a lot of work, time and worry. I wouldn't use a disabled bay without him there but I use parking meters, P&D, Resients etc and I don't care who know so ner!

laughinglil- are you serious?

They don't just issue a car to someone because they have an ickle baddy leg. In order to get a mobility car you have to be in receipt of higher rate mobility- you can use that money to lease a car, or you can receive the money instead.

My son (aged 6) is in receipt of higher rate mobility so we have a car we can use (paying our mobility money of 160 a month for it). He will never live independently, he will never be able to walk along the street alone, he will never be able to shop, he will never talk. Do you tink he could hold down a job? Are you serious? Do you REALLY resent him getting use out of a car. He can't cope with public transport, so take away access to a car and you imprison him.
