I've been thinking about this thread (and the BW one) this evening and TBH (as others have said) if we as a society begrudge people things which really are the 'little' things in life - which help to make their life better, then I think our soceity is going downhill even more than I thought .
As with most 'benefits' people may be entitle to throughout life there's always going to be some that abuse it.......but is it worth getting upset over that tiny minority, when in reality we know that the 99.99% of those getting them 'deserve' them.
I think it's already been made pretty clear both here and on BW, that while those who have children or parteners (or even themselves) with disabilities love their children/partners just as much as the rest of us. They would give the world for them to be 'normal' or 'well' and to be able to lead 'normal' lives.
I'm sitting here, still completely skint, no sign of any work for me yet (despite several applications) and bills to go out in 12 days time. However, I'm lucky as hell really, yesterday DS1 (5yrs old) and I walked for 45 minutes to go to a birthday party, and then 55 minutes back.
Why should I begrudge:
Misdee? Walking 100 meteres is a record for Peter.
Jimjams? I bet she'd give all her worldly possession to be able to walk her DS1 as far I did yesterday without any issues.
Thomcat? She'd love Lottie to be able to cope with stuff like my DS1 can.
All the other mum's on the SN board.
My mum? 10yrs ago she was still climbing Monroes (scottish mountains). Now walking from the car to the house is a real struggle for her.
all this 'equal opportunities' stuff is utter cr*p. Soceity as a whole shouldn't even need to think about helping those around them. But no! some people think that they should recieve the same 'benefits' as the next person, regardless of situation.
