Maybe I am in the wrong place to start this topic but am wonderingif anyone does pilates. I am thinking of taking up a beginners class. I have absolutely no co-ordination - you should have seen me do aerobics, she said left so I went right that sort of thing. Also my fitness level is very low. Anyone tell me anything about it.

i did pilates before becoming preg, its excellent if you are a little unfit, the excercises are geared for strengthening key areas such as spine, abdominals etc and are quite gentle in the beginners class, they are mainly strectching exercises but you can feel the muscles working, if you go to class, tell the instructor that you are a beginner and mention any health problems, like back probs as she can get you to skip certain excercises.

I do pilates!

It is the one thing that helps to keep me sane

Best to do it in a pilates studio - the mat classes will only take you so far, you really need the studio to get most out of it.

Its very slow and rythmical and precise, so lack of co-ordination doesn't matter nor does being unfit!

I like the way it blends mind and body well-being, and my sanity depends on it

I did pilates once and absolutely loved it, but it was so expensive (£10 for an hour's class ) that I just couldn't afford to keep going.
I would second everything spacecadet has said and also say that I have absolutely no co-ordination either (hate aerobics for this very reason) and had no problems with pilates.

thanks for the replies. It was the whole co-ordination thing that had me worried. I really was like David Brent doing his dance when we really got going.
