Violin lessons in school - anyone?

My DD is in Yr 2, she's 6. She's brought a note home saying she can audition to be chosen to learn violin. Lessons are free but violin hire is £53 a year. Pretty good I thought but then I thought can I bear "twinkle twinkle" on the violin for the next six months? Every night? eeek eeek eeek eek little star?

I don't want to stop her having the chance to be the next Vanessa Mae and free music lessons aren't to be sneezed at right? Shall I let her audition for the chance to have a go hoping they'll teach her to read music then I can maybe teach her a bit of piano or clarinet later on?

hmmmm

Thanks YG - it's just that the beginning of term everyone's got a violin and a few weeks in no one has one. I'm really keen for her to learn to read music - I can but I can't teach her IYKWIM.

Wonder why they don't start with the recorder anymore?
