The disappearing mouse trick

Catowners, you may be familiar with this little conundrum.

Cat brought in mouse (at 6.30 this morning - tbh she is lucky to still be alive herself ).

After 30 mins faffing with cat, mouse, pot, furniture etc, cat was deposited outside, mouse (still very alive) was cornered & trapped under a pot.

I then carefully slid a thin magazine under the pot, turned pot upright, weighed magazine down with heavy books, and left it on the side in the kitchen til I could dispose of it.

However, when I came to tip the mouse out into a flowerbed, mouse was NOT THERE.

So...the mouse must still be IN THE HOUSE.

Ds is 18 months and into everything and I can't bear the thought he finds it somewhere - dead or alive.

So, do I get a trap? Are there humane ones? Where do I get one from? Where do I put it?

Our downstairs is open plan, so it could be anywhere.

Just wait for the screams as it runs up my trouser leg while typing!

haha

let the cat in to finish the job!

Frayedknot · 15/09/2005 13:42

No, she doesn't realise it's still in here, she is asleep in the corner.

I'd never employ her as a real mouser.

Sorry can't help with the traps, 'our' mice are all a little too 'played with' to need one! - ideas for places that mice hide - all from personal experience note!

at the top of curtains (nibbling the lining probably!)

Inside one of your trainers - caused a stir in school PE when I was 13 that one did!

behind the 'puter where it's warm

Can't you let the cat back in to find it?

swiperfox · 15/09/2005 13:59

Don't let the cat find it. You can get humane traps from any pet shop or diy/hardware type place. Unfortunately if the cat has to be in the house it will probably find it again at some point. Our cats were always banished until I was sure I'd got the mouse out!!

Frayedknot · 15/09/2005 13:59

I am twitching at the thought of it behind the pc!

Does no-one know about traps?

The humane ones are like a little tunnel with a door you prop open - put a bit of cake or something in the end then when the mouse goes in the door closses behind it so you can just let it free.

swiperfox · 15/09/2005 14:01

Also you will discover where the mouse is if the cat stays in the same spot for hours and hours!!

Frayedknot · 15/09/2005 14:02

Hmm thanks Swiper. Will ring & see if anyone has them nearby.
