My home phone keeps ringing with a message saying I've got a text - is this a scam?

My home telephone has just rung twice. There is a trumpet fanfare and then an automated voice says "This is BTs automated text recieving service and you have a message from 0....... Press 1 to see the text"
Something along those lines anyway. This has never happened before. I know my phone has text abilities but I've never registered for it as was sceptical about the price. I don't recognise the number she says. I'm worried its a scam and that when I press 1 or whatever it'll connect me to a premium rate number or something. Decided to just ignore it but wondered if it had happened to anyone else?

I had a text on my phone once, it was a real live text from a friend of mine who had sent it to my home phone instead of a mobile whilst pissed.

THe only bummer was that it came at 3am so I was woken by the phone shrilling away to find this txext about some bloke...

not a scam.

I've had one today from work. Someone has sent a text message to your phone. It's possible they've got a wrong number. Don't know if it charges you to pick it up or not though.

they dont charge to listern to them or read them just if you send

Why not ring BT and ask them?

I regularly get text messages on landline from my dd

they are funny because so robotic and staccato

but i think it just says this is atext message from (number) and then message is read out and you can listen to it again by dialling another number i think

you don't have to subscribe to the service

I get text messages on home phone from DH when he is in meetings, but it doesn't require pressing any numbers i would be wary of this, he is with orange and it is a strange female automated voice that reads it. Its really freaky if he has said something like love you darling.
