my dd1 is now 3 1/2. she has always had a passion for dancing, is quite comical to watch when music is on, but now is asking every day to go dancing. is she too young? i dont want to pressure into dance classes, but feel she may benefit from the experience even if she decides its not for her (very strong minded child here). i'm not sure what dance classes she would enjoy more as a young child. is ballet too strict, would disco dancing be better, or maybe modern dance or tap? she is very flexiable, think she is double jointed.
can anyone help me please?

I went to ballet from when I was about 3 1/2 and loved it! As we were so young, it wasn't too structured or athletic but more concentrating on rhythm and getting your body to move in time. After a year or so I then did tap as well. By the time I was 8/9 I was giving lessons to my sister at home! I can't recommend ballet highly enough I think it is a really good foundation for any other dancing style which you can do later on. HTH

Defo the right age if they love dancing! I was 3 and my sis was 3, we loved it, it gives a kiddy confidence!! You just have all those lessons and comps and shows and costumes to look forward to!! Enjoy!!

My daughter started at just over three. It's ballet and while they do learn certain things (good toes, naughty toes etc) it's really about having fun with lots of actions to music - using their imagination to be trees/animals etc. I looked at three "schools" before deciding - you have to like the atmosphere and the teacher and see that the children enjoy themselves. A good teacher should let your dd try it out for a few weeks to see how she goes before signing up for a term/investing in ballet shoes/leotard. Recommendations are best - maybe ask friends/local nursery?

My dd did ballet from the age of 3 and loved it becaus it's such fun. You don't have to do exams or be competitive unless you want to. Two great things about ballet are that it's good exercise and it also helps encourage good deportment. I also discovered it's never too late to learn, as my older dd took up ballet at 13 and the school even offers beginners classes for adults!
