School Governors: Can anyone help me with advice?

Hi, I'm a fairly new parent Governor and I'm on the staff dismissals and disciplinary committee, and the school have rung to agree a date for an urgent meeting in two weeks...

What i'm trying to find is somewhere or thing that can recommend how these meetings generally go, how you can contribute and actually be of use and be clued up about things before i actually go into the meeting... I've found Governorline and emailed them and they have advised a response is usually within three days, but was wondering if any mumsnetters have had experience of this and can recommend anything for me, or even what you can advise from your own experience?

Thank you Smile

Could you not have a chat with the Chair of Governors in the first instance? I would imagine there will be some kind of 'policy' surrounding this area which it would be helpful to be aware of.
You may also find that the Local Authority has a department to help school governors in matters of training etc.

in the first instance get hold of a copy of the relevant policy.

then check for relevant training - either through the council website or via your secretary

hope it goes well. I've sat on that committee for two years now and never been called in.

Hmm We don't have a staff dismissals and disciplinary committee.
