age limits on magazines?

my 7 year old step son came to visit us this weekend and in his bag was a rifle magazine with air rifles and even shooting of small animals. i asked him where he got it from and he replied his mum got it for him. surely there is a age limit on these things as well as pornography?

Well, if his mum bought it then an age limit wouldn't have stopped her, would it?

but surely there is something i can do? there have allready been complaints about him in school for bullying and rude behaviour

oh so the magazine is a drop in the ocean then... oh dear. really don't know what you can do - how does your DH feel about his behaviour, and what is his mum like (I'm assuming he lives with her most of the time?)

I used to work in a newsagent. No age limit on magaines, unless they come with a free dvd/video game which is age rated. Porn mags obv 18+ only as well, (though we didn't sell them) but things like nuts, fhm, aren't restricted at all so i'd be surprised if a gun magaine was.

Well, you could try talking to his mum, but tbh if she thinks its ok to buy him this stuff then she probably doesn't see any connection between it and his behaviour.

Could your DH take him on some "manly pursuits" like football or camping, and try to impress on him the difference between manliness and violence?

Ok so I listen to your advice and my dh talked to his ex. Dh but the only response we got was he likes guns and he seen the mag and wanted it so we gave it to him. I'm so mad at this those mags are out on the top shelf in my near by shops, if my son asked for it he would told of for looking at mag up there. And yes we took him camping last year with family and friends he beat up one of their little boys. She didn't care

Oh goodness how horrible. I think if you want some advice on this whole issue (ie the boy's bad behaviour) you should start a new thread on another board (parenting, behaviour/development or similar) as let's face it, the magazine age limit isn't the issue here.
