Or do I need to get a stamp for postage to Europe?

a 1st class will do fine.

Kbear · 24/09/2010 20:11

Europe price (unless NI)

NoahAndTheWhale · 24/09/2010 20:15

I'm sure it will say on the Royal Mail site somewhere

louii · 24/09/2010 20:16

Nope it is dearer than first class to post to the Republic.

WhatTheDeuce · 24/09/2010 20:17

Needs more than just a 1st class stamp, I put 2 on then write "Air Mail" and "Par Avion" on the envelope since it seems to be a well known yet little aknowledged fact that all postal sorters must be French Confused

Seems to get letter there in 2 days

Im posting to galway will it get there if i use 2 first class stamps?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/06/2022 15:47

Northern Ireland is just like posting to anywhere else in the UK.
Republic of Ireland is just like posting to anywhere else in Europe.

get europe stamps.
check weight limits too; may be lower.
best to go to post office, and purchase several stamps before they go up again.

CatWithARabbit · 03/06/2022 15:51

You need a Europe stamp to make sure its gets there. They are £1.85

My relations in England have made this mistake several times. Once I received a wedding invitation two weeks after the RSVP date.

Ireland is another country, domestic UK postage won't cover it. Might get delivered many weeks later if you're lucky.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/06/2022 15:56

You need a Europe stamp, or two first class stamps seems to do the job if it's just a birthday card and you can't get to the post office.

IanOsenfrote · 03/06/2022 16:03

No, you can't. Not even from Northern Ireland.

France is much closer to the UK than The Irish Republic is (excluding NI) but you can't just stick a 1st class stamp on a letter to Calais.

Interestingly enough, distance doesn't really matter. It costs the same to send something to Vladivostok as it does to Calais via Royal Mail as they treat Russia as 'European'. Dover to Calais is about 25 miles. Dover to Vladivostok is about 5500 miles.

Thanks

I use 2 x 1st class, or 1st and and a 2nd class. Whatever the price is at the time v’s the value of the stamps. It always arrives on time.
