What do I do with a lizard?

My sister and her family came to say goodbye yesterday. "By the way, we found this lizard in the hall. Our neighbour thinks it's something special - indigenous to southern France and Spain. We can't take it back to London, though."

So, what the hell am I supposed to do with it?

You sure its not a newt?

gingerbear · 05/09/2005 10:12

Bizarre thread title of the day award goes to Carla.

Carla · 05/09/2005 10:26

No, I haven't any idea what a newt looks like. My sister came with a list of possibilities - tarantala mauretanica or moorish crocodile gecko. Do you think the RSPCA would be interested?

If its not an indigenopus lizard then prob an escaped pet. RSPCA will respond I think. You havnet seen any of the neighbours out looking through the bushes have you?

Where is it at the moment?

Carla · 05/09/2005 10:55

Oh, I could weep. The RSPCA kept me in a queue for 10 minutes, only to give me a number that doesn't exist. Local vet can't help. I've so much to effing well do today, too.

Look for petshops in Yellow Pages, carla. Ours has quite a few exotics (our snake came from there) and can look after almost anything at a moment's notice - they might even buy it off you!

Carla · 05/09/2005 11:33

I can't get to any, JanH. The RSPCA have finally agreed to come and collect it - I just pray to God it's not a newt!

does it look like this?

HappyDaddy · 05/09/2005 13:33

Is it big enough to make a nice pair of shoes?b

Carla · 05/09/2005 21:38

Well .... I was in Marks & Sparks when the RSPCA man rang, so I told him to go into the garden and have a look.

He rang me back to say it was a Water Dragon, and that he could, off the top of his head, think of at least four foster homes who would love to care for it.

So even though I found the thing ever so slightly repulsive, someone must love them!

And it's restored my faith in the RSPCA!

Carla · 05/09/2005 22:10

starlover, he took it away - said it wouldn't last another night without proper conditions.

OP posts:
starlover · 05/09/2005 22:15

Carla · 05/09/2005 22:19

Funny starlover, you weren't the first person to say that! LOL. I doubt they can give them away, though.
