Ds (4yo just) has recently come home from nursery talking non stop about pr. This has obviously come from other kids as he hasn't watched it at home. I feel uneasy about this, am I being over sensitive (I haven't watched it myself just always imagined it was for older kids)?? Many conversations recently about guns and killing etc

DS is 3.5 and loves PR. I don't mind him watching it but he knows he mustn't try to copy their moves.

Now he is desperate for a PR costume, to go in the drawer with his hulk and spiderman costumes that he doesn't really look at anymore I expect!

When ds1 was smaller, he loved Spiderman and PR - neither of which he'd seen any of - it was just talked about at pre-school then school. He was given various pieces of merchendise for his birthday which he duly played with but has to this day never seen an episode of PR (though wh have let him watch Spiderman and ff'd the gruesome bit. He's 7.5 now and the super hero phase has more or less worn off. I think as long as he knows what's ok in your house and how you feel about these things, he'll be fine. I think it's a phase most little ones go through and sadly we have no control over the things they hear at school/nursery etc. Don't think you're being over-sensitive though - I felt the same at the time, but despite his love of super-hero roleplay at the time, he's still the sensitive by he's always been.

i personally dont like pr my nephew is 5 and will kick other kids and stuff pretending to be them i think its too violent for any child oh and its a pile of pants with poo on anyway

mmmmmm... bit controversial this one. Almost a class thing.

DH can't stand PR because of the mindless constant violence.
I can't stand PR because the acting and scripts are SO BAD!!

We have therefore tried hard to shield ds1 from it (he has seen it a bit) and get him to like other things (like Scooby Doo, and he found Thunderbirds on his own).

I would say that most 3-4yo boys have seen PR a lot and love it, though.

Thanks aero and kid reassurance was what I was looking for! I guess I just remember watching Playschool and Play Away at that age (if I can remember that far!!!)

Starshaker I'm sure I'd agree with you if I did see pr.

I suppose I'll just have to live with the constant "Power Rangers Power Rangers Power......................" until he gets bored of it!!

fqz kids tv is such a minefield, ds also obsesses about Thunderbirds which dh thinks is great as he watched it when he was a lad. I pick up on the shooting and the constant cigarette smoking but let him watch it anyway as he loves it so much and well they can't watch Tellytubbies forever can they?!!

I did hate thunderbirds when, in the middle of communion at church this morning, the new electronic TB2 loudly uttered "TB 2 we're good to go FAB" cuewithering look from mother to son!!

Agree, I don't like the ciggies in TBirds. But it gives me a chance to talk to DS about why people used to think Cigs were cool but really they weren't....
