Boring house insurance - a bargain quote!

Well if you're anything like me and the time of year comes around again to renew the house insurance, you ring round all the brokers and get on line to anyone you hear advertising. This year I've had quotes ranging from £650 to £907! for buildings and contents.

Today my Mum told me about Liverpool and Victoria who are meant to be v.competitive, I phoned them and the quote was £519 yippeee! and offering more cover than I was previously offered.

Their number is 0800 608 608 and no I don't work for them and nor does my husband and nor does anyone I know! Good Luck.

P.S They also do an 11 month payment plan with a small amount of interest.

I'm not sure what size your house is but the best quote I found for buildings insurance was from the Prudential (through their web site) for £130 a year for unlimited cover!! This is for a 3 bed, terrace house. We get our contents insurance through Sainsburys Bank for £10 a month for £17,000 worth. So for both we pay £250 a year.

It certainly pays to shop around doesn't it.

Hi Debster, we've got a 5 bed, Victorian detached. Buildings worked out at £288, contents, £127 and the rest was for specified items. They give an allowance of up to £500,000 for re-build and £125,000 general contents insurance. This did not include accidental damage though.

Insurance is one of my pet hates and I like to shop around but I think it always comes down to your postcode in the end. My Uncle in Dorset got his contents insured for something like £34!

Rhiannon, just wanted to say thank you for your info on Liverpool and Victoria from last year. Ours is due this month and I knew there was bound to be something on home insurance if I did a search.

We had been with Direct Line and they wanted nearly £100 more than last year - L&V gave us a quote nearly £100 LESS than last years! We got a bit of a discount - when DH rang up they reeled off a list of unions and asked if he belonged to any of them, which luckily for us he did!

I don't have buildings insurance as I presently rent a flat. But my father has a flat in London which he's agreed to let me move into IF I can get the damp sorted out (place has been empty for several years). Got a new builder in this week and today he's finally determined the cause - a leak from the flat upstairs!

Can anyone check their buildings policy and/or give me a generalised view of whether the upstairs flat's owner's insurance company has to pay out for damage done to the flat underneath?

Absolutely they do.

Our 2nd floor flat had a leaking shower and we had to pay for the damage that was done to the flat below.

My renewal came through today for buildings and contents for £630.
I searched the internet(isn't the direct line site awful - screen kept going blank, losing my details) and got a few quotes for about £450 and eventually got cover through the AA for £360. Seems the cover is very thorough too.
