Kandoo wipes warning!

IlanaK · 01/09/2005 13:02

I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday with the plumbers from Dyno Rod watching them pull out kandoo wipes from my toilet system using tweezers! We had a drainage problem and ended up having to call them in. They plumber told me that his business had never been so good since kandoo wipes were invented. Apparantly they take 5 weeks to break down and only the newest plumbing systems can cope with the "abuse" (his term). He also warned me about the parazone toilet wipes (we use these sometimes) and quilted toilet paper. And he said he was waiting with bated breathe since he saw those new adds for those things to wipe your toilet with that you then release the brush thing and flush away.

We now have put a ban on kandoo wipes going down the loo and will put a bin (with lockable lid) in the bathroom for their disposal instead.

And I will say, my son does not have unsupervised toilet time so this is not a result of him thorwing too many wipes down the toilet - we are the ones who do the wiping.

Anyway, I hope this saves someone else the lovely afternoon I had yesterday.

How f**ing lazy is that?
Bloody disposable bogbrushes?!!

They'll be offering us disposable kids next...

teeavee · 01/09/2005 13:50

I have a formal warning too - 'Charmin' toilet paper blocked the loo in my previous home, cost me £70 to get it unblocked. The same week I read that they were being sued in America for the blocked drains their product had caused!

I was living there alone at the time by the way, and although I am quite liberal in my bogroll use, little did I expect the crisis that ensued....

spacecadet · 01/09/2005 13:51

that would be handy moondog, we could flush em down the loo when weve had enough and buy a new one

Mud · 01/09/2005 13:51

but if you use normal bog brushes you basically have a brush with shit and pee on it sitting in the corener of the toielt for years which is just disgustng

spacecadet · 01/09/2005 13:52

[barf], im glad ive had my lunch

moondog · 01/09/2005 13:53

I don't mud! Mine is regularly dealt with!

(Definition of slattern is one who doesn't attend to the bogbrush..)

teeavee · 01/09/2005 13:54

I'm a slattern....

SherlockLGJ · 01/09/2005 13:54

I am not

misdee · 01/09/2005 13:56

oh no!! i have seen the drainage guys several times over the last few months, i hopw this is because of our toilet wipes!

moondog · 01/09/2005 14:01

teeavee! Wales' reputation is at stake!

teeavee · 01/09/2005 14:04

Hmmm... I've always preferred to ignore that particular household task - however, I think I'll have to mend my slattern ways once my ds becomes aware of the loo brush's existence and starts playing with it - which could happen any day now.....

moondog · 01/09/2005 14:05

Oh yes! My ds's (14 months)favourite trick here in Turkey is to dip his hand into the open drain in the bathroom (dd lost the cover!) and have a good suck on his fingers....

Who am I calling a slattern again??

tassis · 01/09/2005 14:23

flippin typical - they were buy one get one free in tesco this morning (kandoo not disp loo brushes) so for the first time I bought them...

Mirage · 01/09/2005 14:23

We had the same problem with babywipes at our old house.I had to help my dad unblock the drain with his drain rods & it wasn't pleasant. There is a complete ban on flushing wipes now & ayone who breaks it will well & truly feel my wrath.

I didn't know that quilted toilet paper caused problems though-thanks for the warning.

daisy1999 · 01/09/2005 14:29

never used bum wipes - what is the point? How does a child manage in a public or school loo if they've only used wipes at home? I find it amazing that they sell at all.

teeavee · 01/09/2005 14:33

They're just trying to create a whole new market for things that you don't really need - and targetting children to make money, I hate that kind of thing

piffle · 01/09/2005 14:34

Now I can be really earth mothery smug and be proud that it WAS worth knitting my own
re useable wipes after all

Fennel · 01/09/2005 14:41

those wipes sell to those of us with slacker children who are too lazy to wipe their own bums. i would buy anything to encourage my 5 and 4 year olds.

(is this normal? do other 5 and 4 year olds have good habits?)

but cos they never use the wipes anyway we don't have a problem with the drains

In Asia/SE Asia they have squat toilets and use a shower hose or a 'mandi' for washing and flushing. No paper problems there.

BunnyBoo · 01/09/2005 17:52

Dp is a drainage engineer and he has told me never to buy the kandoo wipes he says every other blockage he gets called to its because of those bloody things !

LilacLotus · 01/09/2005 17:54

thank you for pointing this out. i shall now completely ban them. we stopped using them after DD got an awful eczema type rash on her bottom.
