How do I clean an iron...?

...or to be more precise...

I've cleaned my iron, using vinegar and a cloth. How do I get the vinegar smell out of the iron? Will it steam itself out?

Any help gratefully received.

Hmm, wipe it over a few times with a damp, non-vinegary cloth?

Doubt if it would make your clothes smell!

HappyDaddy · 01/09/2005 11:59

That simple? See, I knew us men over complicate things! Thank you.

How 'bout making some lavendar water, using that it in, and wiping with it too?

flamesparrow · 01/09/2005 12:00

I'm impressed that you know what an iron is, and that it might need cleaning!

Nightynight · 01/09/2005 12:21

With a nice little bottle of iron cleaner, that you buy at a hardware shop, and a soft cloth.

HappyDaddy · 01/09/2005 12:52

Hmmmm I have a pile of ironing and noticed that the iron was filthy before I started. I'll just give it a wipe and see.

I realised why DH's t-shirt said "iron on reverse" the other day when ll the blue from the print on the front came off onto my iron ... luckily it just sort of ironed back off again.

I have a black brown patch that builds up on plate of my iron, DH thinks that when this happens it is time to buy a new one. How do I clean this, I have tried the special cloths.

moondog · 01/09/2005 16:47

Bit of meths will shift it,skribble.
Wait 'til I tell my dh about yours-he'll have a fit!
I've only just got him to part (very reluctantly) with the three bar heater he and his brothers huddled around as kids. (He's 40!)

Nightynight · 01/09/2005 17:11

Skribble · 01/09/2005 17:58

Thanks moondog I will try that I have just stuck label from cub neckie to it so its really sticky now .

HappyDaddy · 02/09/2005 14:33

Toothache, I put in some of that vaporesse stuff but forgot to empty it out. When I went to use it, it spat brown cack all down itself.

Anyway, it's clean now and none of my clothes smell of vinegar!
