In our street the children are called,

Kian
Jordan
Josh
Shannon
Niamh
Declan
Jack
Aaron
Hannah
Carly

I read some of that list that was posted further down, the one with the chav names on it. I think it really does depend on the area you live in because there were a few names that were mentioned and I know children with those names. Where I stay they are not all that unusual and certainly not chav names. I'm not talking about the way out names but some fairly normal names.

dd1 is 8 and in her year at school there 4 callums and 4 Kierans, popular names at the time it seems.

Hmm, Lockets, I know your DDs - intrigued re Pruni's now though!

Am totally obsessed with names atm - still no idea what bump will be called!

bettythebuilder · 31/08/2005 23:37

I'm a big fan of theming. When in labour (on Christmas Eve ) the midwife asked what names we liked. I told her I was thinking of "Christmas" for a boy - Kit for short, and she just looked at me and said "erm ...NO"!.

I've always loved the names Ruby and Bow for little girls think they are lovely. I also like Scarlett! I like Franky for a little boy. What are your fav names?

yorkshirelass · 01/09/2005 09:44

I love this thread!!! (and being a 'Tracy' this is a subject dear to my heart as I got the 'Sharon & Tracy' comments at school!!!)

When I was teaching in Leeds I had a 'Keanu' and 'Shania' amongst others - wonder where the parents got the inspiration eh?

laughinglil · 01/09/2005 09:54

my mum is a sharon... always got that! I know a Brooklyn. Even though it is a lovely name I think. I could never call my child that!

Nixz · 01/09/2005 09:55

I adore scarlett, always have done since i was a nipper, my neice is Ruby. I love Bruno for a boy, i know I called my dog it though just incase i ever had a baby boy! I loved the name Hannah when i was pg but Dp used to call an old lady in his street Hannah Banana, so that went out the window. My fave name tho (and i think for family sentimental reasons) is Margaret (i know again ), dp is scottish so the scottish short of it was Maisie but i kept thinking of a spaniel everytime i said the name so i chose Maggie, i wanted it so badly, i love that name. Its dd middle name now, dunno why we didnt choose it in the end.

laughinglil · 01/09/2005 10:04

Maggie is lovely. ... Dh and I have just been invited to MIL cousins birthday party. MIL is called Lesley. She also has 2 cousins called Lesley. So her mum and two of her sisters all called their children Lesley. I would go mad if my sisters had the same names for their children. Its not like they wasn't close either. Does anyone else find this strange?

KateF · 01/09/2005 10:13

Very odd. I was going to use Rose as dd3's middle name but my cousin gave birth 6 days before me and used it so I though up another one to be different (she's Philippa Lucy Jane).
Betty - waht did you call your Christmas baby. I am one and was nearly a Christine!

laughinglil · 01/09/2005 10:16

I just feel sorry for the
Grandparents you can imagine...
''Can Lesley stay with you tonight? which one?''
''Lesley stop being naughty'' ''I'm not'' ''No not you the other Lesley''
AARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

northerner · 01/09/2005 10:18

moondog · 01/09/2005 10:25

In Zambia, trend in some places was to name a child the name of whatever you saw immediatley after the birth. My father knew a 'Table' and a 'Chair'.

SherlockLGJ · 01/09/2005 10:26

laughinglil · 01/09/2005 10:30

I was sick..so that would mean I would name my child sick! hahaha

KateF · 01/09/2005 10:31

Zambians have some great names. I know a Lovemore, a Trywell, a Progress and a Never (called that because his dad never knew him - died before he was born)

Toothache · 01/09/2005 10:32

Well in the Scottish lists I didn't find either of my childrens names! Toby and Elizabeth.
