DS's nursery class friends include:

Girls:
Georgia

Freya
Zena
Taylor
Robyn
Simran & Kimran (twins)

Boys:

I knew a little boy called Saddam. His older brother was Nasser. Guess what their surname was?! And Saddam was born at the time of the first Gulf War.

hunkermunker · 31/08/2005 20:09

Why weird, Cod? DS's name is Scottish...but not weird, I don't think!

laughinglil · 31/08/2005 20:10

i really liky darcy and freya as girls names. did you hear that after footballers wives the name Chardonnay was given to loads and loads of babies think it was at number 75 or something! anyone got a Chardonnay on here... it sounds so ... how can I put it..AWFUL!

laughinglil · 31/08/2005 20:11

laughinglil · 31/08/2005 20:11

some scottish names are lovely! there a few weird ones though

Magscat · 31/08/2005 20:15

Laughinglil - I like Freya too but Darcy makes me think of Mr Darcy.

Are you a Lilian ? My dd is Lilian (Lily for short)

hunkermunker · 31/08/2005 20:16

laughinglil, you got the surname right...unbelievable, isn't it?!

laughinglil · 31/08/2005 20:18

no i am a Louisa. I think Lily is a lovely name really traditional and suits all ages.
Don't you think that sometimes people call their children names that fair enough suit them as babies but not when they are old? Or they are too old for a baby? Like the name Nigel or Barry. They are fine when your older but who would call their baby that?

Lots of Max and Ellas in these parts

hunkermunker · 31/08/2005 20:21

lL, agree with that - I use the "come out to play, suitable applicant, love you" test for names

IE - Can come out to play?
I think we'll employ
I love you, *

Currently struggling with names for number two, so running lots through that particular check atm! LOL!

hunkermunker · 31/08/2005 20:21

Hasn't one of yours got a Scottish name, Cod? Won't say, obv!

laughinglil · 31/08/2005 20:22

Alec aint too bad Cod. There is a Scottish family round the corner to us and they have a Dougie. I don't like that at all for a baby! They also have a Ewan and a Lois which I think are lovely names.

hunkermunker · 31/08/2005 20:23

Was surprised when Charles Kennedy and missus whose name escapes me called their baby Donald.

Re. 'Old' names - Yes - I hated being called Margaret as a child in the 70s & 80s - way too old fashioned. I still do in fact & no-one ever calls me that but I really seriously hated it when I was at school.

Lots of 'old fashioned' names are back though aren't they?
I know a group of 6 yr old girls called Kitty, Emily & Alice. I actually like these names individually but together somehow they make me think of my great grandparents generation.

Nbg · 31/08/2005 20:28

Do you know, I've slated a few names but I dare bet a few wouldn't like dd's and the 2 names I've got lined up for no.2 and 3!

I'll keep my mouth shut now. Each to their own

laughinglil · 31/08/2005 20:30

I love the name Alice think it is lovely! NBQ tell us the names please?

Nbg · 31/08/2005 20:34

madison always reminds me of the pretty mermaid in the film Splash! with tom hanks

Magscat · 31/08/2005 20:54

Coco reminds me of the skinny one who was always smiling in Fame ! (That's not a bad thing btw).

Nixz · 31/08/2005 20:54

Cod - dp is scottish and when we were thinking of names he suggested Davey, Jackie and Tammy. I think this backs up your point quite well!
