me too

Tissy · 29/07/2003 11:39

yes, you have to put in ALL of the address including the "http://" bit. Make sure the slashes are going the right way, too!

EmmaTMG · 29/07/2003 16:35

Nope, can't do them either. Followed the instructions to the letter and it still didn't work BUT I have always been bad at this sort of thing.
That's probably why I have lots of recipe books gathering dust as I can't be bothered to follow the instructions properly.......Hooo-Hum!

SoupDragon · 29/07/2003 16:37

I can!
A link to this thread would be this

\link www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=9&threadid=10243\this {} without the spaces by the curly brackets.

SoupDragon · 29/07/2003 16:39

Now htat's weird... that last line looked right on the preview. If this doesn't work I give up

\linkhttp://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=9&threadid=10243\this{} without the after Link.

RockingRosebud · 29/07/2003 16:43

Sorry to be thick Soupy but how do you know the numbers etc where do you find the details of the link? TIA

SoupDragon · 29/07/2003 16:48

I'd like to pretend I'm really clever and its terribly difficult but I just copied it from the address bar of internet explorer... If you click on the address bar, the address gets highlighted (does on mine anyway), then press the ctrl + Insert buttons together, this copies it. Click in the "add a message box" and press Shift + insert to paste it.

lou33 · 29/07/2003 17:20

Or click on the address to highlight it, then right click, hit copy, then paste it where you want by right clicking again and hitting paste. Does that make sense?

happycat · 29/07/2003 17:53

explain lou33 still can't

I find in helpful to paste in the address including the http bit then add steps 1 - 3 at the start

  1. \
  2. link

then steps 4 - 6 at the end

  1. \
  2. this
  3. {}

Note that at step 5 you do not have to type the word 'this'. Instead you could type 'here' or a description eg 'the site for good suggestions'.

HTH someone. It took me a few goes to figure it out when I first tried a couple of months ago.

butterflymum · 29/07/2003 18:02

Ooops - strange, that was ok in preview but posted with a blip.

Step 3 should be

Step 6 should be {}

Note that these are curly brackets not ordinary ones.

SoupDragon · 29/07/2003 18:05

Step 3 is an open curly bracket and step 6 the closed one The instructions in the box at the bottom seem fairly straight forward to me - I think the trick is to get the whole address to put in the middle.

butterflymum · 29/07/2003 18:07

I don't believe it, it happened again.

One of my curly brackets was next to step 3 and the other next to step 6.

I think this is why people are getting confused. Those of us trying to help are previewing our message, it looks ok, then when we post and look, it has changed - usually the brackets have moved onto the same line!

So, for steps 3 and 6 you should only type in a single bracket at each, not a double as shown.

Is that understandable - step 3 is a single bracket with the curly bit pointing left, step 6 is a curly bracket with the curly bit pointing right.

doormat · 29/07/2003 18:53

have a look at www.mwww.mumset.com/Talk?topicid=9&threadid=10243

lou33 · 29/07/2003 18:54

1.) \
2.) link
3.)
4.) copy and paste the address you want, or just type it in including www. etc
5.) \
6.) Type whatever word you want it to link from (e.g "here", "this" )
7.) {}

Then preview and click the link you made to see if it works.

lou33 · 29/07/2003 18:55

ooh how strange my brackets moved too!
it's never done that before!

lou33 · 29/07/2003 18:55

number 3 should be , and number 7 should be {}

lou33 · 29/07/2003 18:56

How odd it's done it again. Have a look next to the box where you add a message, I give up!

doormat · 29/07/2003 18:59

Oh bummer cant do it and off to the pub

happycat · 30/07/2003 09:36
