Rhiannon · 08/08/2001 19:13

Well number one for me and has been since it's release, Like A Prayer by Madonna it makes me tingle when it comes on (but don't tell anyone!).

Number 2 is Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding?

and Number 3 is Can't Help Falling In Love by Elvis.

I never thought I'd find anybody else in the world who knew the song "The Rainbow Connection". It's FAB. Can't think of any others, though. Well of course, I can, what I mean is, I can't think of only 2 others.

Bo · 10/08/2001 13:07

Batters - I used to listen to angels when I was pg & burst into tears - the first time it happened I was driving - had to be very careful thereafter.

My favourite ever I think Has to be "Idiot wind" Bob Dylon (On blood on the tracks) I could listen to it over & over again & never get bored. I was listening to it in the delivery room when they told me I'd have to have an emergency c-section.
I can't stand Pink Flloyd usually, but I love 'Wish you were here'
Also Jesus & mary Chain The hardest walk - I think years since I've listened to it - better dig it out right now.

Miti · 10/08/2001 14:24

Dh and I sing our lungs out in the car to the remake of It's raining men by Geri Haliwell. Luckily for those around the stereo is also on full so they can't here us!
My tear jerker song is by Roger Waters My yellow rose. So sad.
My clear the boredom song is Cows with guns by Jan someoneorother. I had to buy the CD for that song alone as it was never released as a single.
DH drives visitors nuts as I'm sure they think he only has three songs in his collection:
With arms wide open by ....pregnancy hormones stole my memory brain cells!
The roof is on fire by The Bloodhound Gang
Slide (I think that's its title) by Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Bexi · 10/08/2001 14:54

My songs for today are:
Know Your Enemy - Rage Against The Machine
Dig For Fire - Pixies
Crucify - Tori Amos
Jodee - Totally agree with you about current boy/girl bands. I've got a soft spot for pop, but I wouldn't call it great music. A lot of them don't even write their own stuff when they're not doing cover versions.

Mel · 10/08/2001 19:26

Lloyd Cole and The Commotions - Perfect Skin
Everybody Cries - REM
Fall At Your Feet - Crowded House
Giant - The The

and like everyone else, about a million more!

Rhiannon · 10/08/2001 20:31

I must be so old and decrepit, I don't know half of these songs!

I'm sorry but Red, Red Wine is my most hated song of all time (must start another thread). He just sounds like he's whining when he sings it, sorry Wornout. Anything by Bjork, sorry but not me either, did you see her dying swan outfit at the Oscars? Sorry I'm bitching.

OP posts:
Beelzebub · 10/08/2001 22:51

Rhiannon, totally agree about 'Red, Red Wine'!! That would be my absolute, Room 101, into-the-incinerator song. It has to be the most dreary, depressing, badly-sung song, ever. Along with everything by Elton John, Phil Collins and Dire Straits.

As for the goodies:

Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis
You Really Got Me - Kinks
Paperback Writer - Beatles

Stompy · 10/08/2001 23:10

Hi, I'm new to Mumsnet. I have a daughter who's 4 months old called Leonie.
Anyway, here's my tuppence worth:

"Song for Whoever" - The Beautiful South
"Nothing Else Matters" - Metallica
"Glory Box" - Portishead

P.S.

Bexi - I think we have a similar taste in music - I like Rage Against the Machine too!

Jodee · 11/08/2001 09:09

This is no good, I'm losing sleep thinking up my fave songs! Today;s offerings:

U2 - Bad
The Smiths - There is a light that never goes out
The Waterboys - This is the sea

Bexi · 11/08/2001 15:44

Today's offerings from me are:
We Care A Lot - Faith No More (For jumping around and singing along to.)
Die Laughing (or Screamager) - Therapy? (Also for jumping around to.)
Hunger Strike - Temple of the Dog (For going 'Awwww - what a beautiful song' and 'Chris Cornell's sooo gorgeous'.)
Sorry - I'm getting carried away here. Hi-Ya Stompy, it seems that we do have similar tastes in music - I love Metallica - My fave song is probably Eye of the Beholder (just for the intro).

Joe · 11/08/2001 16:05

I cant really single out 3 records but really like anything I can have a good sing too.
Quite like Atomic Kitten and Whole again, anything from Abba, Elvis, Alanis Morissette for a good sing even if you are out of tune. Rikki Martin for a sing and jig while doing housework (my son laughs at my attempt to do latin).
I like some of S Club 7 too and my husband likes Steps (he is a fun loving man who likes a good boogy). Sixties music, there are so many but I must admit I havnt heard alot of the groups some of you have mentioned, I must get out more.

Emski · 12/08/2001 19:42

Bexi, I'd completely forgotton about 'We Care A Lot', haven't listened to Faith No More for years, loved them when I was younger!.
Anyway, todays songs will be
Duncan - Paul Simon
Let the good times roll - Lee and Shirley(?)
Rocky Raccoon - The Beatles

Harrysmum · 13/08/2001 08:20

Songs for today are:

Visions of Johanna - Bob Dylan
Mysterious Ways - U2 (tomorrow night can't come soon enough!)
Moon River - Louis Armstrong

Jodee · 13/08/2001 19:45

Harrysmum, if that is a hint that you will be going to see U2 tomorrow night then I hate you!

(Not really - but am insanely jealous, those tickets were like gold dust. Have a great time!)

BTW, 3 songs for today:
Sting - I'm so happy I can't stop crying
Protection - Massive Attack/Tracey Thorn
O Mio Bambino Caro - (whoever sung it in A Room with a View)

What a fab thread but ooh so difficult to narrow it down to 3!!!

SO 3 for today!!

Someone mentioned Protection by Massive attack. That whole album is fab.I had it playing while I was in labour with ds and whenever I hear it I am back in that birthing pool!

Ain't nobody by chaka khan .

Never too much by Luther Vandross.

OR an alternative 3
Conversation by Joni Mitchell
Mile End by Pulp
Closer to Fine by the indigo girls.
God I could keep going all night!!! Another 3 tomorrow i think!!!

Emmam · 16/08/2001 07:32

Had to add my 3...

One of my kind - INXS
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Porcelain - Moby

Also like lots of Leftfield (but can never remember the titles of any of their songs), loads of U2 and INXS. Micheal Hutchence had the most beautiful voice. Got to admit to liking Simon and Garfunkel and Mamas and Papas too - really love California Dreaming!

Harrysmum · 16/08/2001 19:00

Just back from the fabulous U2 concert in Birmingham so have to add Sunday Bloody Sunday to my list since the live version was quite amazing. They didn't play The Sweetest Thing however which is also up there as one of my favourites. Waiting for the day that dh is equally inspired...

Bexi · 16/08/2001 22:25

Harrysmun - I'm so jealous. I love Sunday Bloody Sunday, I agree it's their best song.
My three for the day are:
Teenage Lobotomy - Ramones (boyfriend made me a tape with this on when we first met - how very romantic)
Misty Mountain Hop - Led Zeppelin
Do You Love Me Now? - Breeders

Dorisday · 16/08/2001 22:25
