What's the difference between a stick and a twig?

(actual question so don't go waiting for the punchline!!!)

Here's a joke... what's brown and sticky?

happymerryberries · 24/08/2005 18:10

Flamesparrow, Caecillius in horto recumbit.

katierocket · 24/08/2005 18:11

a stick?

iota · 24/08/2005 18:11

Veni Vidi Vici - Julius Caesar

flamesparrow · 24/08/2005 18:12

How rude HMB!!!!

(What'd ya say???)

And yes - A STICK!

happymerryberries · 24/08/2005 18:13

caecillius is lying down in the gardern, he was the dh of metella!

She was sitting down, he was lying down, strewth you caoulf tell that Grumio was the bloody cook!

flamesparrow · 24/08/2005 18:17

Oooh I thought he was lying down! Just wasn't too sure where.

Mr Higham would be so proud - I don't think he expected me to even retain that much!!!!

The canis was quite often lounging about near Metella as well.

The story started to get a bit far fetched when it moved to Bath though....

iota · 24/08/2005 18:20

oooh dh is opening the wine -- gotta go

Ave atque vale

happymerryberries · 24/08/2005 18:21

Mine was called Mr Dufty (!) honestly you can't make up crap like that can you? I can't remember them going to Bath, I do rermeber the son getting his first toga and versuvus erupting. But I only did it for two years. Was Bath in the 'Blue' booklets? I remember doing the green and orange ones

Yup - I think it was the blue book... we had to do it for 3 years

Vesuvius erupted, I think Metella and whatshisface died, but the son emigrated to Bath (as you do)... got to learn all about religion intergrating into England then.

I liked the learny bits, just not the language learning!

We had Mr Higham who was mad but lovely - he'd test you and not notice your textbook on your lap. And then Mr Jarvis who was also fairly insane, but more of a control freak way... he yelled at you if you yawned

snafu · 24/08/2005 18:32

Caecilius was almost always in horto, iirc.

Grumio always gave me the impression he didn't wash his hands too often...what's Latin for 'yuk'?

happymerryberries · 24/08/2005 18:33

Look at the link I posted in another thread, flameshapprow its here!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found the books on line!

flamesparrow · 25/08/2005 01:58

I'm lost!

SueW · 25/08/2005 05:28

We used Ecce ROmani. I'm sure the first sentences were 'in pictura est puella. puella est Cornelia.'

sestius · 25/08/2005 15:01

ooh ooh mumsnet is playing my tune, ask me about Caecilius go on go on anything (has to be pried off computer and put back in nice filing cabinet)

moozoboozo · 26/08/2005 00:11

OMG!! Cambridge Latin!!!!! Grumio in horto sedet, canis in via, Quintus est filius, Metella in atrium recumbit, or something like that.

There was Caecillius, Metella, Quintus, Grumio, Clemens, and Cerberus (ets canis)

Grumio was always ebrius. And Metella had big hair.

How sad am I that I remember their names??????

sestius · 26/08/2005 06:29

Doesn't anyone remember Bregans the dopey Brit with the moustache and the attitude? A blow against the Roman oppressor, just like Star Wars.

moozoboozo · 26/08/2005 10:49

Bregens rings a bell......

Enid · 26/08/2005 10:50
