Why won't my toilet flush everything away?

Maybe hub2dee can answer this one?

Tons of water, no blockage. Takes 3 flushes to get even a couple of bits of loo paper round the U-bend. is the direction the water hits the bowl all wrong or soemthing?

Have you blessed your cistern water highlander ???

Hmmm.... dunno. I presume when you flush (to get rid of your 'couple of bits of loo paper') the water level rises quite high and then takes a while to come down ?

If yes, then it is safe to assume a blockage somewhere. Toy / toilet roll in / just behind the U bend ? Further along the waste pipe ? Into the main drain ? etc. IYSWIM ?

If, however, the water doesn't back up, and you aren't using Magic Floatey Paper, what is probably happening is that each flush is not giving you the required six or so litres of blessed water needed to shift things along, in which case you need to pop open the cover of the cistern and see what might be causing this... (blue block cleaner is in the way of the outlet ? ball and valve mech not moving nicely ? Modern cistern mech being interrupted in its movement somehow, etc. etc. ?)

HTH

For all things like this, there are people at diynot.com forums who can give better advice.

aha aha aha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we've just arrived back to the UK (well, 6 weeks ago) and on our first flush we discovered the water was blue!! Yes - I bet the block is blocking the outlet. Will go and investigate......... H2D, you are indeed the God of all things DIY
